In one of the films that came out in 92 some of the NPG members were talking about the recording of "7" and how he recorded each backing track as if it was a lead vocal.

P was a master when it came to his melody and harmony. Underrated in my opinion. Didn't he mention that he had laid down 14 vocal tracks for Man O War? Dude was a genious. I think songs like Black Muse and Baltimore (the ending) really show his ability to harmonize within a great melody. Speaking about seeing him live; I am so glad that I took the time and effort to see him perform live. Thank goodness we have video. I miss Prince.

Adonis and Bathsheba is a perfect example of how great of a background vocalist he is.

there were a few things they did at that time... right? like 2 ABC spcials and the 3 chains of gold video... I must have been on one of thoes. keep in mind when ever i would have watched it i would have most likley only watched once or twice and that was 24ish years ago...

You are so right. Three live shows (among many others) that I'd love to see officially released: Dakota Jazz - 2013 SXSW - 2013 Montreux - 2013 I might be in the minority but I loved the NPG Hornz thing he had going then. And while I was never a fan of horns on LGC the horns on 1999 at Montreux sound amazing.

question: were there any prerecorde backing vocals? i think he used some for One Night Alone shows and he was trying to use some means of using programed backing vocals and instruments for some live shows at another point to try to make it more interactive... so the band would not need to know all the songs... I forget when it was but I remember reading about it and that they tried it out but it did not work well so it was scraped.

Totally agree... once you get them headphones on and hear what he does with harmonies, cold chills every time. There are a few brief little moments of harmony in "Look At U, Look At Me" that are amazing, just as a recent example
