How many nights at Paisley do you think he performed the war? I think it was maybe two different nights.

There's allegedly a longer version than the cassette/CD, which would be interesting to hear. But I remember getting the cassette randomly from NPG (I was never a member, but had ordered 1 or 2 things from his sites up to that point, including Rave in2). It was so odd, and cool. And prophetic. Although other artists were talking about that sort of thing, too. Microchips, etc.

Just as a note, it always hit me that it would have fit well on Exodus. It seems like that sort of era of a song. Exodus was trippy to me, almost reminiscent of a Funkadelic or Parliament thing, in a broad stroke. Goldnigga was a grasping at rap, and NewPowerSoul was acrylic partying. But Exodus just seems like a trip front to back. (Although I do think it's stronger without the silly segues.) I can feel like a 7 or 8 minute version of that song right in the middle of Exodus.

Princevault says he performed it occasionally in 1998 and 1999 during whatever dates.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

My favorite Prince song. cool I hope to hear the other versions one day if they're out there.

The version I have now was from the netherlands during the nps tour. Total different set up with different lyrics and lacking the awesome guitar solo
But the phrase "the evolution will be colorised" is still there.

In my self made best of (with over 200 songs 😆) i've edited this song to a 13min version. It still works that way. But off course the full version is better. I did the same thing with america long version. I kept 13min of the 21min version. It works very good in my best of to keep the flow between all these amazing songs.

I love that description for the album.

Are you referring to a studio version?

.

Technically there are numerous versions of this track as each time he performed it live it was very different in length and in terms of enthusiasm of the audience to participate in the chant.

.

For example at the Hippodrome aftershow, only a few people kept the chant going and it was rather boring as hardly anyone knew the track.

.

lol

3 times total to an audience at P P plus once in London hippodrome plus the version mentioned by the OP. I personally asked him to play it at a TV studio in 1999 but he ignored me. I was at the hippodrome performance the night before the first cafe de Paris show that was on beautiful strange

There is a crap quality recording of the full 45 first performance of the war but not circulating. The long version has no "new" or different sections, it's just repetitive which is why it was edited for release.

The Version mentioned by the OP has been circulating since the gig, likewise hippodrome. The other two pP performances aren't circulating.

There is no known studio version and he didn't play the emporium after he wrote the track. Emporium was 95 and war 98/99
