A compilation album beyond the pop hits for the long term fans and younger fans alike

What would you as Prince fan like to see? I mean besides what may or may not be in the "Vault"

For me it would be either live album or an album of harder tracks that we was known and loved for by his hard core fans.

I offer one suggestion. An Album called "Days Of Wild" to honor that "Rude Boy" side he shot to stardom with. And I have no doubt it would also go a long way in attracting those elusive younger fans. Most have no idea! No idea how much of a badass he was.

*All of course the long or extended versions, which were usually not available in their respective albums and some were B-Sides also not available on albums. Live version! Days of Wild in particular has a lot of great live versions floating around. Any outakes would also be good in attracting us long term fans into taking our money.

1. Days of Wild
2. Bob George
3. Erotic City
4. Darling Nikki
5. Shockadelica
6. Scarlet Pussy
7. Come on
8. Pheromone
9. Dirty Mind
10. When you were mine
11. DMSR
12. Controversy
13. Life Can Be So Nice
14. Tambourine
15. Rock Hard In a Funky Place
16. She's always in my Hair

That's just off the top of my head.

Lol, nothing from MPLSOUND. It has to appeal to a broad audience.

Yet you suggest "Tambourine." Ah, that's a real mass-grabbing tune. lol

I think that others could suggest better galvanizing songs that that one, in that case.

You've opened the floor--let the people choose their favorites!

I stand by "Valentina", and add "Zanalee" to the list while you're at it.

yes

yes

I'm sorry i meant it playful and not mean spirited.

But Id like to see your own list. What others think would be a rock funk rude boy compilation. I like Zabaleta, but it also wouldn't make my list.

Tamborine rocks like mad. It would go great with today's younger crowd. It was not only ahead of its time, it needed to be out to a wider audience. It went over a lot the newer little red corvette and purple rain fans at the time.

I think if you really need a MPLSOUND track on a compilation, then the new Prince 4ever album is all you need.

Cool. Of course I like to make playlists tailored to my particular moods and taste. I think today everybody has the chance to do this with so much of Prince's published music being attainable as singles, so the idea of compilation recordings seems a bit retro to me. I guess it can be used as mass marketing tool if you wanna do that. It might make a record company more money than Youtube would. lol

I think that the sound and subject of song "Valentina" would blend well dropped anywhere into Prince's 1999 album! The music is a neat little hook off a fun, little-known album I feel would snag the younger crowd's attention.

FWIW, here's a compilation I made about 1 year before Prince's passing for general listening and to hook potential Prince fans, done with a guitar fan's ear in mind with some keyboard and instrumentals sprinkled in and offering some stylistic range; mostly post-80s work to allow for a fresher perspective beyond the hits/Revolution crowd. It was a success to my targeted audience, BTW. For a more hard-rocking collection I'd make other choices, but as far as this one, you're seeing it here, first!

There is a lot of music that's not easily accessible to the general consumer or in really bad condition for the hardcore fans who have them. So it's not really retro, but making it easily accessible to the masses in a great condition and hopefully with a little background information to go along with them.

And I hate to say, that in my opinion your list would not appeal to old fans and certainly not a younger audience. Those are the tracks I skipped and hope to never hear again. Definitely not mainstream or able to prompt anyone to further discover Prince's music or especially to spend money on.

That's actually a list proven to have turned away generations of people from Prince's music.

FWIW your comments read jokey to me this time, Ingela--a de rigueur effort that I think many of us can anticipate. You have a way of putting things that really takes the cake--and drops it. cake

Heartfelt thanks. fallinluv

We're talking about "a compilation album beyond the pop hits" so there you have one! Yep, I'd definitely add "Zabaleta" as you coin it to one of Prince's rock collections.

>

It'd be nice for there to be a ready-made compilation of rare songs too, such as the bootlegs that people have to search to find, to galvanize the listene, but you haven't mentioned any of those. Why not?

>

Anybody out there care (or dare) to suggest on this thread some rare songs for a compilation album?
