Tried to find the interview but can't remember who it was. The host brought up the sum and Prince said something like - that's a lot of money. Brand new boogie without the hero.

purplepoppy said: There's an interview when the host says he checked and Prince already gave away over 200 million dollars to charity. Prince looked humble surprised. He was always helping folks with $$ money. When Prince was on George Lopez's show George mentioned that Prince had gifted $2 million to charity to which Prince seemed genuinely surprised it was that much. I don't know where he got the figure from or what time frame it covered. Paisley Park is in your heart

This is one of my favorite interveiws with P.
George Lopez is so sweet and warm and gentle with him.
P looks very comfortable and at ease and like he feels safe to be himself.
I love how much he laughs with Lopez.
He also seems this comfortable with Jay Leno and Tavis Smiley.
It's a joy to see him laugh and smile.
The "Latina" line about P's Mom was cute.

. Hilarious how you lot take one made-up number and then add an estimate of potential earnings and then come up with an even bigger and completely unbelievable number that "you heard somewhere". And now you're already using these numbers in other threads as if they're facts. © Bart Van Hemelen

Yeah yer right. Maybe I'm off by 198 million if this was the interview, lol. Watched a lot of them right after he passed. Sorry. I did not carry it to another rthread and I can't help that. Prince had a 40 year career and gave away lots of money. He also made and spent lots of money. Agree that what his estate (or anybodys) is worth is all relative. Actually, I find it more hilarious...perposterous even...that you, not being his banker or accountant or having personal knowledge of his finances other than what you've garnered from reading or hearing or seeing whatever, think you're anymore a credible expert and your disbelief is tantamount to fact.
Hmmm...Interesting how it works both ways, huh?

Well, let's see...
With publicly acknowledged and stated sales of 100million albums, plus sales of non-albums (singles, digital memberships, etc) and merchandise (cups, bags, frisbees, etc) and his picture books and custom guitars and jewelry and perfume and TShirts and concert sales (which were publicly acknowledged as far more than what he made on albums (one concert in particular made $35million alone) and real estate and other investments and private performances (the guy from St Barts reportedly paid $5million for the 2016 NY Eve show) and royalties from music he wrote for others and royalties for Purple Rain rentals/sales and whaterever he made on his other movies and whatever he made on his 1999/2000 NY Eve Pay-per-veiw special Rav Unto and whatever he made from his director/writer/producer credits and whatever he made producing other artists...
Nevermind other ventures he was involved in that we don't know about, heck he could've co-owned vegan restaurants for all we know...it all racks up to be a considerable amount in at least the hundred million+ zone...
Multiply any of those income streams by 20 years, deducting some time for P to implement these incomes streams and make them profitable, that's still only him making $10million a year in profit to reach $200million. Not so outlandish considering his live performance schedule alone and how much only one concert netted him in profit. Now add the other income streams and allow for tax credits from having a charity.
Not so outlandish a figure anymore after all.
And no projected revenue from the vault has even been figured into the above.
Hmmm...

Yay.
OK, why don't you tell us which charities you donate to, and let us tell you if we think they're worthy causes or not. Let's see... Baby, you're a star.

. UCLA? yea, I agree. . Prince was the kind of person who would not even think twice about helping someone in need!! . We lost too many wonderful people in 2016

Bottom line is, Prince didn't care about money & material things. Besides, the JW believes that a man should not die with wealth. We all know that the love of money is evil. All you have to do is look around, and look at the entertainment industry--it's all about money and greed. Prince wasn't having none of that. Even with all his money, fame, success, he was still "humble", and "down-to-earth". He didn't let any of that change who he was. I love him for that!!

. Hilarious how you presume he didn't spend money like nuts. Paisley Park was bleeding MILLIONS each month at one time. And that was back when he was earning fuckloads. . Just look at how the estate is struggling to earn money just to keep the lights on. And you think Prince had hundreds of millions? . Even the actual worth of the Vault is highly debatable. Selling records is basically a fringe business nowadays, and before anything in the Vault is ready for release a fuckton of money needs to be invested. . Just for context: Taylor Swift earned $170 million THIS YEAR. © Bart Van Hemelen

Erm, no sweetie, I didn't presume that he wasn't a generous spender at all.
It's you who erroneously presumed that I presumed that.
However, as disheartening as you may find it and as much of a blow to your inflated ego and despite your blustery posturing to the contrary, you also haven't acknowledged that regardless of whatever P spent and regardless of what you assume regarding the financial details of PP/the PRN family/P's estate, it's all just speculation on your part because after all, Bart, you aren't their accountant/banker/investment broker and aren't in a position to state unequivocally that my example financial figures upthread are positively and absolutely wrong.
Have a nice day and thanks for trying.

. Why did you only take one part of my entire comment? . Well, when you look at how other celebrities of Prince's status lived, it makes Prince's lifestyle pretty modest. . So, you believe everything his personal chef said?

. Let me understand your comment. So, you are saying that Prince (Prince Roger Nelson) DID care about money and material things? . If that were the case, then why wasn't he living large, in the most beautiful mansion in Chanhassen. Why was he living at Paisley Park then? . He could have lived in the most lavish mansion, with a recording studio, basketball court, swimming pool, and whatnot. But, he chose not to. . I think some of you are taking my comments out of context. . What I mean is that compared to a lot of wealthy celebrities, Prince lived very modestly. . I mean, look at Mariah Carey, for instance. The media talks constantly about how much money she spends. Not that I care, but you didn't see Prince living like that, come on! .

. Yes, PP is huge (55,000 SF), but I was referring to mansions that you see celebrities living in, in the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills. Yes, Prince had that beautiful "Galpin" home, and others around Chanhassen, which were more modest. Yes, he had a Basketball court, "indoors", right? . I understand what you are saying about "material" things, but to me, he seemed to live very modestly, when compared to other celebrities. Of course, maintaining a 55,000 SF facility is quite expensive. I don't argue that. . Thank God Prince wasn't as gaudy as say, Trump is!! Prince had Class!! . I never looked at PP as being a house or a mansion. I don't happen to find it beautiful at all, architecturally-speaking; it's very bland looking and not the type of architecture I would choose, imo. But, it was what Prince wanted. It was his recording studio, soundstage, business offices and private living quarters. . I would never describe Prince as being a "Hippie". Prince did not fit that image at all! LOL . .

In the US, and other places in the world, people of color are often oppressed, which causes there to be a void in the availability of public services, good jobs, and many other resources. So when support to directed toward the oppressed, it's not about race per se. Race is the reason for the oppression in the first place, so it's not racist to help the oppressed, but it is racist to oppress based on race. The Western Branch Library existed in the first place because black people were not allowed to go to the "white" library. You can't sweep that history under the rug.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. Yes! Very true! You can't blame them, because they could not go to the "white" library, or sit at the front of the bus. I can't even begin to image how horrible that must have been for them. . Will we ever live in a world when we are not judged by the color of our skin?
