Manchester is not known for funk or soul specifically, so I honestly don't get your point for targeting that genre specifically. But it DOES have a musical history that prevails and influences to this day. As for being original, Tony Wilson put that one best- 'This is Manchester. We do things differently here'.

But that doesn't mean he didn't reap from those benefits of attaining a record deal and becoming known and brought his business initiative back home to Minnie. The man built his own empire and brought musicians from all over to record and create work there.

New Order were very unique and influential - kind of a fusing of the prevalent indie scene in the UK at that time and dance music.

Manchester's always been a big music town in the UK.

Aren't New Order/Joy Division from Salford? Blue Monday was pretty funky. So much so, that it inspired Afrika Bambaataa's only hit.

What about Shaun Ryder from Happy Mondays — of Step On fame? That track had significant MTV rotation in the States.

I can't see whoever's organizing this, literally walking down the streets of the particular city where the venue is located — rounding up any swinging Dick and Mary Jane they come across in random soccer fields and sports bars and whatnot.

I assume the speakers that will be taking part will come from all over England — if not from all over the world.

Hmmm. I don't usually engage with narcissists... because really, what's the point? However, I find you to be quite entertaining and therefore mildly interesting. It isn't your views on Manchester or music that interest me, because you seem more intent on having us believe you KNOW everything, rather than telling us WHAT you know. That's often a sign of a deluded fantasist.

No, I'm interested in why such a well connected insider such as yourself, who seems to know almost every famous person in music who ever lived, including Prince, waited until two months after Prince's death to join the org? Did you have no insights and expert views to share on the man while he was alive and able to dispute what you say? I could say I knew Prince and then list 10 well know associates from his past and claim to know them also.

By the way, I'm sure an intelligent soul such as yourself is aware that knowledge by association is a flawed concept at best. Knowing Prince, Beyonce and Jay Z doesn't make you any more an authority on music (or where a Prince event should be held) than the guy or girl working on the checkout at Tesco. Many a genius in this world has surrounded himself by minions and fools. It was one of my oldest and dearest friends, the late John Lennon (I wouldn't have made that claim while he was alive) who said 'Jesus was alright but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me. ' That being that people who argue a point by bringing in to play who they know, are usually those who were born to follow, not lead... and have little of originality or substance to say of their own. Those same people also often use photos of their heroes (and ones from their perceived peaks of fame) as avatars, to further ride on the backs of kings and assume importance.

Given your sub-standard grammar and sentence structures, and your strange penchant for starting some comments with lower-case letters while capitalising words found mid-sentence, I assumed already that you were not educated to British standard (spelled with a capital as it is a proper adjective).... although the same cannot be said as to your assertion regarding not being a fool. I therefore hope that you have been able to follow this post. If you're struggling, why not hop on the phone to Jay Z for some assistance; I hear he's quite an educated fellow?

Just a last thought for you to consider. Where an event takes place is far less important than who attends it. If you feel that a Prince event held in Salford will attract mostly local Mancunians who drink and watch football (why else would you want to discuss the merits of the Manchester music scene in relation to the event?) then you seem to have quite a narrow understanding of the far-reaching impact of your friend Prince, and with it the willingness of people from places far and wide to travel to attend such an event. Indeed, it might be argued that placing the event in a less likely location will ensure that only those committed enough to travel a distance to it will attend, meaning blow hard know-nothings who lived next door to Prince's mother's sister's cousin and therefore think they know something about Prince and live around the corner from the conference if it was held say in MN, are kept away (no offence meant to you)... thus ensuring a higher calibre of speaker.

I've just dedicated 15 minutes of my day to you, which was five minuted longer than I felt you were worth spending on. As a troll you are only average, but my 10.00am client has been held up in traffic and so I thought I'd take the opportunity to waste a few minutes on something trivial before I get back to work. Thoughts guys? I'll probably head down to that. It sounds pretty interesting.

Think I might write a proposal for this, I did spend the last 3 years at University studying Illustration and spent the majority of that time drawing Prince, harassing tutors who have seen Prince and submitting coursework that subtly hinted to P in one way or another. AND I'm in the area! My time to shine has come I kid.

Either of those sound very feasible and I'm always up for a challenge anyway, so I might give it a go!

I have a friend who is a lecturer at Salford Uni. I emailed him to check if this is real or not and it's definitely taking place. He knows the organiser well and so is going to keep me in the loop - I'll pass on any news as soon as I know.

I'm tempted to do a corpus linguistic study of Prince lyrics but I really don't think I'll have the time to put it together. I've sort of started it as a hobby but to be honest the results are a little unremarkable (at least to those in the area of corpus linguistics but they may be of interest to Prince fans). I've put in for time off at work in May so I'll see if it gets authorised and go from there.
