You people.

She referred to SONGWRITING. HE has WRITTEN over 984 songs. She was referring to his wanting to be remembered as a prolific songwriter.

Not the same thing as having recorded them all.

Reading comprehension is a wonderful thing.

thats how i heard it, too

Yes, you are correct. Tyka said "songwriter". nod

I have a very soft spot in my heart for Tyka. She is sweet and fragile. But, she also has some of the same swagger that Prince has. I loved her confidence as she spoke about her brother. I almost cried when she quoted one song. She also has some of his mystery. We dont know what she meant. I think she has been ambiguous with some things on purpose. I like it.

1) No.

Then someone else earlier in the thread as right. You're attention seeking. Your thread title will throw up inaccurate results when people search for information in the future.

2) She didnt say "released". And it could not have meant "written", because she followed it up with "and counting". He cannot write songs where he's at now.

BONUS: He hasn't released 984 songs.

"Released" might not be the right word. But obviously he's released a huge number of songs. Not that far from the number Tyka mentioned...

He can't write new songs, but they could still be discovering new songs from tapes in the vault. Or she could have been refering to plans to release Vault material. Since you can't be credited with writing a song until you make it known you've written said song. To spell that out... Nobody could credit Prince with having written "Stare" until Prince said "Hey I've written this song called stare... which he did... by releasing it.

"The Vault" in the case of Prince refers to unreleased recordings. Not officially released songs. If a song is released, it's no longer considered to be "in the vault"

Your thread title is speculative AT BEST, more accurately it's wildly inaccurate and will show up in searches.

I do not believe that it what she was referencing. When she says 984 I believe she was talking about what he HAS released, and the COUNTING part, is what is in reference to the vault.

Except he hasn't released anywhere near that many tracks - it's much closer to 500.

She is referring to the amount of songs he has written, whether he sang ot or not, or released it on an album or not. Easily 900+

Since Tyka's acceptance speech I was curious to know who was considered the most prolific composer of my lifetime and it turns out that it's Irving Berlin who passed away in 1989 at 101 years old.

According to Mr. Berlin's publishing company manager, "It was a ritual for Berlin to write a complete song, words and music, every day." Sound familiar?

Irving Berlin composed 1,500 songs during his lifetime including White Christmas.

I found it very interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/...ing_Berlin

I hope when the vault is finally completely catalogued we finally get to the bottom of certain songs. Because after listening to "Still a Thrill" for the millionth time there is no fucking way in hell it wasn't written by Prince or with W&L. Just no fucking way in hell whomever claims wrote actually did one lick of work on it other than Jody Watley singing along a prince temp track. Just no fucking way. And if she claims otherwise she brainwashed herself into believing it.

I was just curious because Tyka said P wanted to be remembered as the most prolific songwriter and it made me wonder how close he actually came to doing that.

Only because it meant so much to P.

Interesting article I found where this person "Musicbizfraud" talks about how many songs Prince had written:

.

How many unreleased Prince songs will Warner Brothers claim were recorded between 1978 & 1996. According to Susan Rogers, Prince’s former recording engineer, “I wanted us to have everything he’d ever recorded. I called up the studios he’d been using and said: ‘Have you got any Prince tapes?’” she told Azhar, saying there were 2,000 unreleased songs when she left in 1989. “This is his legacy. We need to protect these things.”

.

Underneath the picture below that paragraph in the Daily News report titled (Prince’s secret vault of unreleased music could produce albums for another 100 years ) it also says "Warner Music Group, represented by Stu Bergen, CEO, International and Global Commercial Services (c.) still owns half the rights to Prince’s music recorded between 1978 and 1996.

.

Notice it says recorded and not released and Susan Rogers says their were "2,000 unreleased songs when she left in 1989." 1989 fits in between 1978 and 1996 don't it? So that would mean that Warner Brother could / is going to try to claim they own 50% of those (alleged) exact number of 2000 songs.

.

What if i told you that all eleven songs on (Hit n Run / Phase One) NPG Records 2015, came from the exact 2000 songs that Susan Rogers, says she remembers in 1989 but forgot to mention to CNN or Warner Brother until after Prince died.

.

Her favorite hidden gem (Indicating Prince was Hiding Songs From Warner Brothers a.k.a. Stealing His Own Music) is “Moonbeam Levels,” a single recorded in 1982 (Notice she gives the year) that she dubbed “unbelievably beautiful.” Prince already broke those chains!! Don't even try it!!! http://www.nydailynews.com/…/p... ‪#‎DelfunkboyMusic‬ ‪#‎Princeownedhismasters‬ ‪#‎RIPPrince‬ ‪#‎NPG‬

He said in the late 90s/early 2000s that the vault contained "upwards of 1000" completed songs. I would imagine it could be twice that many by now.

I would say that's a possibility, but he could've also been steadily dipping into the vault at times and releasing a few songs here and there since that time.

2000 songs by 1989? I'm not sure I buy that... 2000 tapes perhaps. If he kept up that kind of work he'd be at 5 or 6 thousand songs. I'm not sure I buy that... not saying it's impossible but seems unlikely.

What if i told you that all eleven songs on (Hit n Run / Phase One) NPG Records 2015, came from the exact 2000 songs that Susan Rogers, says she remembers in 1989 but forgot to mention to CNN or Warner Brother until after Prince died.

I'm not sure I believe this either. That Susan Rogers remembers all 2000 songs? That "Shut this down" & "Ain't about to stop" came from the 80s? "This could be us" was a remix from AOA and the song on AOA was said to be recent and inspired by a Meme; which didn't exist in the 80s.

I could believe there were lyrics he recycled. "You know you want me like a new pair of shoes" - could have come from any era. Maybe she's hearing a lyric that was once in another song?...

Interesting find though. Hopefully one of the Purple Podcasts will be able to interview her.
