"Released" might not be the right word. But obviously he's released a huge number of songs. Not that far from the number Tyka mentioned...

He can't write new songs, but they could still be discovering new songs from tapes in the vault. Or she could have been refering to plans to release Vault material. Since you can't be credited with writing a song until you make it known you've written said song. To spell that out... Nobody could credit Prince with having written "Stare" until Prince said "Hey I've written this song called stare... which he did... by releasing it.

"The Vault" in the case of Prince refers to unreleased recordings. Not officially released songs. If a song is released, it's no longer considered to be "in the vault"

Your thread title is speculative AT BEST, more accurately it's wildly inaccurate and will show up in searches.

Since Tyka's acceptance speech I was curious to know who was considered the most prolific composer of my lifetime and it turns out that it's Irving Berlin who passed away in 1989 at 101 years old.

According to Mr. Berlin's publishing company manager, "It was a ritual for Berlin to write a complete song, words and music, every day." Sound familiar?

Irving Berlin composed 1,500 songs during his lifetime including White Christmas.

I was just curious because Tyka said P wanted to be remembered as the most prolific songwriter and it made me wonder how close he actually came to doing that.

What if i told you that all eleven songs on (Hit n Run / Phase One) NPG Records 2015, came from the exact 2000 songs that Susan Rogers, says she remembers in 1989 but forgot to mention to CNN or Warner Brother until after Prince died.

2000 songs by 1989? I'm not sure I buy that... 2000 tapes perhaps. If he kept up that kind of work he'd be at 5 or 6 thousand songs. I'm not sure I buy that... not saying it's impossible but seems unlikely.

I'm not sure I believe this either. That Susan Rogers remembers all 2000 songs? That "Shut this down" & "Ain't about to stop" came from the 80s? "This could be us" was a remix from AOA and the song on AOA was said to be recent and inspired by a Meme; which didn't exist in the 80s.

I could believe there were lyrics he recycled. "You know you want me like a new pair of shoes" - could have come from any era. Maybe she's hearing a lyric that was once in another song?...

Interesting find though. Hopefully one of the Purple Podcasts will be able to interview her.
