Some singing parts of The Holy River and I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man hold some similarities. In fact when I am thinking of one of these songs, the other automatically starts in my head.

At 0:40, 'Like A Mack' has the same funky guitar riff as in 'Beginning Endlessly' (at 3:43 & throughout). Life Matters

The synth line at the end of My Computer is very similar to the one is Musicology.

Wow! Classy. RJOrion said: cloveringold85 said: Good topic! . You know, I always thought that "Purple Rain" sounded a little like Journey's "Faithfully" . Purple Rain (1984) . Faithfully (1983)
so did Prince...he actually called Journey before releasing Purple Rain, and showed them the song, because he was concerned about the legal ramifications, due to the chord changes in PR being so similiar to Faithfully...the cats from Journey were flattered by the call, and gave P their blessings...

"Jughead" is the Tony M / Diamonds and Pearls formula remake of "Housequake". I bet you could go back and forth on those in a mix. Same song completely re-voiced in the 1992 band style, with the MC Hammer influenced rap verses.

KoolEaze said: Back to the topic... Back when Thieves in the Temple came out many people compared it to When Doves Cry. I don´t really hear the resemblance. Maybe the synth parts? - Computer Blue sounds like it was partly inspired by the Ohio Players´ What the Hell. Not that it´s a rip off , because Computer Blue is a drastically different song, but there is a part in both songs that sounds similar. Listen to What the Hell and you´ll know what I mean. Musically,I don't think these two songs sound alike, but it seems as if "Thieves In The Temple" was supposed to be the "When Doves Cry" of the GB movie.....in both songs,Prince is hurt and feeling rejected.

Me Touch Myself = Act of God
One I just discovered this morning cause I woke up singing both songs in my head with 2 different lines. Me...touch myself x 2...then I went into..But I got news for u, freedom ain't free...they'll lock u in a cell if u try to be... I had to look up the lyrics to remember that it wasn't lyrics from Me touch myself, but to Act of God. Lol [Edited 1/7/17 6:50am] "Put on your boots Alfred...let's go!"

Drums don't count IMO... I think it's amazing Prince wrote thousands of songs and none of them ever needed to borrow ideas from others for the purpose of finishing the song. He sampled previous songs, but he never ran out of creativity. Nobody I know gun' bite

Those staccato notes are not something hidden in the background, they are very much front and center and sound VERY MUCH LIKE like Take Me With U, which was also front and center. So Take Me With U doubles up on the notes? Big deal, they are essentially in the same vein...even my 10-year-old daughter made the connection. Anyone who can't admit that has clouded purple goggles on.

Different keys would mean nothing. If I wrote Stairway to Heaven again in a semi-tone down I'm pretty sure someone would say "That sounds like Stairway to Heaven!"
Don't get me wrong I like both songs actually.

And not to beat a dead horse LOL, but a few minutes ago "Take Me With U" came on. Just for grins, I picked up my guitar and tried to play/sing "Rock and Roll Love Affair" in time with "Take Me With U".

"Manic Monday" sounds > "Raspberrt Beret" and "Take me wtih U". Same cadence and similar progressions.
To invert that list, 1999 was arranged around the Sussudio song ( Phil Collins).

Yes, you are correct. I thought that song was released earlier than 1999.
