Yes for sure. Emancipation is so underrated. There are so many gems on it and was such an exciting time to be a Prince fan when it was released...a 3 album set of new material..wow.

Thanks for the reference. What a pleasant surprise. The classic albums that Billboard usually does this type of update on are typically huge commercial and/or critical smashes. While Emancipation certainly didn't bomb in either area, it certainly wasn't this type of megahit that it deserved to be at the time. It is great to see Billboard correct this mistake by featuring it now! wink

Hell yeah. Nice article tbh.Emancipation was the first Prince album I ever brought actually. I'm 26 now. Brought it when I was 18 years old. Album came out when I was 6 however. It remains in my top 5 favorite P albums also.

Great to listen to this incredible 3CD set again 20 years later in it's entirety.

Truly an album with too much of a good things.

But oh so many incredible songs and memories
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

'Emancipation' has always been such an underrated album and I've never understood why. There are certainly many potential Number One's in there, and not just for Christmas.

EMI had major plans for Emancipation.........they were shut down before they got started on the push for this project.

Yes, that was hugely unfortunate.

It certainly was as the shut down just came out of the blue.

I've been listening to this a lot lately.

"It's too much to digest" is the most common criticizm, and it's pretty valid. You're not going to sit down with 36 songs and end up familiar with them in an hour... maybe not even in a week.

Something struck me while listening the other day. While it is a triple album. If you look at it as Emancipation Phase 1, 2, 3 it's no longer this huge orange monolith.

Phase 1 deals with the past. Phase 2 the present (at the time) & Phase 3 the future.
