Well we know he was a member of the Org.

Obviously "No More Candy 4 U" is about disgruntled fans, too. I remember being rather harsh on ol' boy back then on the Org about stuff. A friend told me, jokingly, "He wrote that song about you!" hahaha we both had a laugh about it.

I do know Prince probably appreciated fans feedback, and even if it was negative, if it was constructive he probably appreciated that. One thing about most Prince fans, is that they're really smart. Many are musicians or have worked in the industry in some fashion (engineers, techs, whatever). Some are music aficionados, and self-taught musicologists in some fashion. Some are fact finders, and some are historians, some are archivists. I believe when those people have spoken up and made a note about something that seemed off to them, or just didn't hit their ear right - Prince listened. It doesn't mean he went to change that next time, but a great artist learns from any source they can soak in.

Prince still did his own thing, and he could certainly clap back when necessary, as we heard with things like "F.U.N.K." or "No More Candy", etc.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I would have to disagree with the use of the word most. I agree that many are probably musicians or otherwise involved in the music lifestyle, but if the members of this message board who post frequently are any indication I might say that most Prince fans are quite insane.

Can't they be both smart & insane (along the lines of John Forbes Nash Jr)?

I cannot disagree with that. If you've seen my posts, I constantly go after the conspiracy lunatics who think Prince was planning his own death for years, laying out secret messages, etc, only to die face down in an elevator six hours before anyone found him. (I mean honestly, that's sloppy execution.) There are plenty who are fucking insane in romanticizing his death. I'm a realist in that regard. However, there are very smart fans on here, and aboard, that aren't a few brain cells short. As with anything, the greasy wheel gets the grease, so the nuts are seen more and are louder. But the truth is always the truth, despite their ramblings.

I'll go with "a lot" of Prince fans are smart. razz

I don't wanna put words in steakfinger's mouth. But personally, I intepret the word "insane" as a euphemism for a more appropriate word that's probably best left unsaid ; د )

That's a good one!! See, Prince did care about what we were thinking! LOL

.

Funny what he said here:

.

Prince sings. "I don't care what people may say, I ain't gonna let it ruin my day." Toward the end, Prince tells his fans, in his famed helium-like "Camille" voice, "I love all y'all, don't you ever mess with me no more," before taking out all his anger on his guitar.

.

Prince goes as far as calling one person, likely a member of the PFU, "a big fat punk," and threatens someone called "Weemolicious" by singing "Look here Weemolicious, you and your boyfriend, lemme tell you somethin' right now, you run up on me again with words or otherwise, I'mma knock both you punks out." He also sings that he wants digital music to "disappear."

.

.

LMAO!! Prince was too funny!! ohgoon

Heh--yup! Prince would have probably wanted us to spell that name as "Weemalicious" to best project his feelings toward that person's commentaries.

I think he's saying "Weavolicious", implying that the girl has a weave. I don't know why, but I find it hilarious hearing Camille insult another woman. If Prince said it, it would sound insulting to me. Why I think having Camille say it makes it funny is beyond me, but I love that line. That and "Digital music disappears in the daylight" (wishful thinking, right?) make me smile every time.

Yes, he could have been referring to some girl's "weave", LOL lol

You think he was being "Camille" in that statement?

I thought he was being the "real" Prince and being very masculine in his tone.

.

Wonder who he was referring to as the "Big Fat Punk"? confused

So here's what I think, although I really don't have any skin in the game. I think that using Camille's voice was a playful way for Prince to say pretty much precisely what he wanted. As you get closer to the end of the song, you can hear Prince's baritone speaking voice doubling the song, particularly if you listen with headphones (i.e., "Gossip again, ho, hum, Listen to my drum.). He also sings back-up vocals for Camille off and on throughout the song. But there's no doubling for the line about Weave-olicious, so I'm assuming that it's still Camille singing.

In addition, I think it's the kind of remark that, from one "woman" to another, is either going to make her back down or start a big ol' catfight. (It would certainly make me want to slap her.) I don't think it plays as well coming from a man (Prince), plus it kind of feels like the Camille personality (to me).

Now, did Prince mean everything Camille was saying? I say yes, but who knows for sure.
