With the right promotion (first single since.., unreleased track from the vault, recorded in his glory days) I think it could be a hit (for what it's worth these days).

I wouldn't call them 'hits' but if I recall correctly the HnR albums also went top 10 without much promotion, the pre-released tracks from AOA (Breakdown) were in the charts as well for a short period, so why wouldn't MB be?

.

But as it will probably be an Album Only download and not available for streaming (if the album will be available for streaming at all) it is going nowhere.

No worries. Youre cool.
Inunderstand some opinions people get upset by. Nothing wrong with that either. As long as people are allowed communicate their feelings without bigotry or hate against anyone it's all good.

Hope the family has their shit together with this Godlike tune we all know and love and want the general public to know what we know. Moonbeam is the greatest song ever, not just from Prince. And it has stunning lyrics. Hoping the idiot critics get it.

Do you all think it could become a hit? It sure deserves it.

The lyrics reflect Prince's approach to everything. He tried to write a novel but he didn't know where to begin? Of course not. He isn't a writer. Kamasutra with the NPG Orchestra? Of course not. He isn't a classical composer and has not raining therein. Jazz albums? Not hardly. Smooth jazz is not jazz. Just because you're really good at a pretty decent handful of song forms and styles doesn't mean you're an expert on EVERY style of music. Nor does it mean you know anything special about politics, religion, literature, and/or art. Arrogance leads to exposing yourself before mastery is acheived because you believe your own press and don't think you have to work at anything anymore. That's the reason for so much personal and artistic failures. Very brave and genius-infused lyrics, indeed. biggrin

Did you just call Prince a personal and artistic failure?

I've always liked the verses far better than the chorus, which to me, never fit the song. Personally speaking of course, but I think if he would've worked out a different arrangement for the chorus, that song could have really become great.

Oh yes please, single all the way. Think of it as a primer. I always tell friends and co-workers (who now know I'm a crazed Prince fan because of my trip to Minnesota) that they have to take Purple Rain Prince and just throw that out the window. The real Prince was trippier and soooo much cooler than that. Moonbeam Levels as a single is a perfect illustration.

I don't think so, but apparently it is the name of a vehicle in GTA.

Agreed. To be honest and I know it sounds awful but I think loads of his tracks could be hits without Prince in the way. God I've listened to so much leaked stuff in the Las few weeks and I feel like a 12 yr again. Can't believe tracks like our destiny, open book even gold nigga. God this stuff is amazing.

They need to start curating properly. Prince must be the first artist to not only after death sustain a reputation but have a chance to start a nee career. Loads of this stuff is better than his hits

Have there been new leaks??

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

The song could be different things.

But is seems to be about negativity and negative energy and a plea for "moonbeam levels" (maybe divine intervention?) to free him from the negativity. Could be about coming out of depression?

"Yesterday I tried 2 write a novel but I didn't know where 2 begin
So I laid down in the grass tryin' 2 feel the world turn
Boy loses girl in a rain storm, nuclear World War III
All that's left is pain and sorrow, as far as he's concerned"

An artist looking for inspiration so he lays down in the grass to find inspiration but all that comes are negative thoughts or "pain and sorrow"

Chorus: "He says please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
Please send all your moonbeam levels 2 me
I'm lookin' 4 a better place 2 die"

Pleading for positivity and wants to die in a better state of mind.

"Maybe he's lookin' 4 a different world
Maybe he's lookin' 4 a brand new high
Maybe he would like a nice condo overlookin' the rings of Saturn
Maybe he wants affection instead of a plastic life
Maybe he doesn't know what he wants at all"

Searching his mind to find the positive thoughts. Affirmations. Thinking about what he really wants.

"He said he'll never keep diaries 2 learn from his mistakes
Instead he'll just repeat all the good things that he's done
Fight 4 perfect love until it's perfect love he makes
When he's happy then his battle will be won (It's never 2 late)"

More affirmations about staying positive or maybe about a positive one who is fighting for perfect Love. Jesus?

More chorus repeat..."He don't, he don't, he don't really wanna die
He don't wanna, he don't wanna, he don't wanna die {x2}
He don't really wanna die"

He found the positive energy and doesn't want to die! Typical Prince ending on a positive note and with closure with a happy ending.

I've ALWAYS loved this song. I also played this song often and when my boys we little; they'd often ask about the meaning of the song. (They're in there 20s now.)

The song has a longing feel to the music. His guitar is longing for answers. Longing for happy.

Reminds me of the longing high notes of "Computer Blue"

The opening piano has a narrative vibe with almost a nursery rhyme story telling then the synthesizer kind of hints that all will be okay. As the song progresses the music gets brighter and more inspirational. Part of me wonders if he wrote this song for theraputic reasons to pull himself out of a funk? Lots of clues to this..such as "Maybe he wants affection instead of plastic life"

A brilliant song to me! Possibly my favorite unreleased (Until Tuesday) song! I speculate he didn't release this earlier because he probably felt it sounded to much like his Purple Rain work. Song could've probably worked great in the Purple Rain movie and soundtrack in my opinion. EVERYONE who've I played this song for has Loved it.

I really don't like how they're putting this song in there with songs we all already have. Not gonna buy a whole $21.00USD album for 1 song and some pictures! Should of given us at least 7 unreleased songs!

They should put together some type of video for the song and promote it aggressively to radio stations. It's a brilliant song that could finally become the big hit that it deserves to be.

Prince fans have been desperate for the man to have a hit single for about twenty years now. It if it didn't happen in the last two decades of the mans life, it sure ain't gonna happen now he's dead. Not even MJ could get a proper posthumous hit, and he has way more commercial viability than Prince.

I looked at the itunes pre order page for Prince 4ever and Moonbeam levels clocks in at 4:06 so I wonder if it will have the full ending because my boot version clocks in at 4:08 and doesen't have the full ending. Maybe the speed on 4ever is a little faster and we get the full ending hopefully.

Ok, but isn't that an exception...

Companies did cancel the format in (circa) 2007.

If my memory serves me: "Guitar" (the song) was Prince's last cd single, true or untrue?
