Not sure why you feel the need to exclude those two.

I'm going to leave them as options and tell you my favourite track on the album is Dreamer.

RIP sad

Because they're covers? I always felt the strength of this album lies in his guitarplaying, not the songwriting. If the best songs on the album are covers, than that's not a good sign. That said, 4 Ever is a nice ballad, so I'll choose that one.

Prince's cover of Crimson and Clover is a combination of the songs Crimson & Clover and Wild Thing.

.

Colonized Mind is not a cover.

Prince wrote the song Colonized Mind.

I have been listening a lot this album, it's guitar-driven ; my favorite songs except the two aforementioned ones are :

Wall Of Berlin

From the Lotus (with a Santana-esque guitar)

Boom (more Hendrix here)

Curiously 'Dreamer' is not by far my favorite rock track of him (too repetitive in my opinion) ; i prefer to listen to 'Fury', 'Let's go crazy', 'Redhead Stepchild' or 'Pretzelbodylogic', among many other ones.

Hard to say such a great album. But favourites definitely From the lotus, Boom, Colonised Mind and Money for its fun loving attitude.

Colonized Mind is not a cover.

Prince wrote the song Colonized Mind.

.

Calling it a cover is overkill, but "Colonized Mind" is heavily reminiscent of Miriam Makeba's "Quit It".

But if that wasn't your rationale - why did you exclude those two?

My fave has always been "$".

Thanks for telling me about Quit It by Miriam Makeba.

.

After listening to it I think that it is fair to say that Colonized Mind is not a cover of Quit It, Colonized Mind is a rip off of Quit It.

.

Colonized Mind is my favorite song on Lotusflow3r

I thought the Colonized Mind/Quit It thing was common knowledge. I guess it wasn't... But still, it means that the two best songs on Lotusflower aren't Prince originals... And Dreamer is a little too close to Jimi Hendrix' work to be called a great Prince song... And $, Wall of Berlin and Feel Good (etc) really are average songs... So there really aren't a lot of good original Prince songs on this album... But, like I said, I still like it because of the guitar sound...

"Colonized Mind" is a rip-off, but I loved the guitar solos it inspired in concert.

I pretty much love this album from beginning to end. It may not be the Princiest album, but I had been wanting a Jimi-inspired, guitar-driven album. I always thought he excelled more at rock in the latter part of his career.

Hard to choose one: Boom, Dreamer and the two instrumentals
.

But what I love most about this album is the psychedelic mood all over it. And Prince is killing on he guitar.
