When I thought "I Hate U" couldn't get any better, enter extended version.

Bare in mind, I adore "I Hate U" original version. But I have put the extended version on repeat all day, all night. The keybord line is stellar, although it's the spoken part about 2.30 minutes in that really did this song for me. Instead of "This court is now in session" it's "I hate U baby, more than you ever know". His voice is so dark and magical. I played this part loud in my headphones at the gym. Not only did I break my personal best in benchpress and military press but of course the ladies wanted to know who was singing with that voice. It was in the part where he combines his darkest voice with his falsetto. This has become my calling, preaching Prince jams to new people who aren't at all familiar with this kind of music. You all know how gym people can be.

I prefer the remix over the original version and I especially love the ad-libs in between the lyrics.

It´s funny without losing its sincerety, and the deeper bass sounds great.

The Forrest Gump line makes it sound a bit dated but that´s ok. Still a great song.

One of his last great maxi singles....remixes , nice cover art, etc.

And many people, including non-fans, liked this song so much when it was released.

" U gave a dog a place 2 bone, and now ur ass is all alone...I hate U !"

lol

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I have to stick to the album for this one. The drum machine and stuff on the remix sounds like a cheap R&B song from a second rate artist. The other edits are good, and the sax version is nice.

I really love the "extended" part of the original version ("This court is now in session" with the great NPG and that guitar solo climax) and you are telling me there is an even more extended version? Wow

You mean the Extended Remix not an Extended Version? 6:17 timing?

If so, nah, I love the album version. The band is so much more powerful and it sounds like he's channeling some Isley Bros. I've never heard this version all the way through but the Extended Remix sounds flat and way too modern R and B for me. I do like the ad-libs however.

Always loved it but the album version just shades it for me. There's some great lines in it - 'Guinness couldn't count the scenes of sex and violence in it'

There's no improving on the album version. It's perfect.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Sometimes a little time away can give one a fresh perspective. Doesn't mean it will be a different perspective, however. Have taken this for a spin a few times since last posting and my opinion hasn't changed: the emotional tension of the album version is missing here.
