Prince - The Final Playlist While reading a thread regarding Greg Proops talking about Prince's music (the dude's a fan), they talked about this trip to Electric Fetus days before he died. I'd not heard of a couple of these acts, but the majority I have. Here are the CDs he bought.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm not sure if this is the volume of the Swan Silvertones record or not. It's what Proops rattled off real quick, based on the E.F. owner. Apparently The Chambers Brothers is a rock band that did a song about the war in Vietnam. I'm interested to check that one out. I've not listened to much Joni at all, so that's on a list of new things for me. Same for Santana in general. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Was it on Proops' podcast - I dip in and out of them, you wouldn't know which episode he talks about P would you. The guy, and I know the word is used too easily, is a genius. . I'm certain P woulda undoubtedly had these - the Joni, stevie and Santana for example - so wonder why he was buying them again. Was it CDs he bought but and not the vinyl (know u may not know!). Guess he didn't like to stream from Tidal! Comin str8 outta Preston...

I was really surprised by the 'Best Of Missing Persons' album. They started a good rise in '82-'83 (Words, Destination Unknown, Mental Hopscotch) but then imploded.
Terry Bozzio is an incredible drummer.

Thank u, found it. I'm not totally amazing at working out iTunes from podcasts or all the other ways of hearing things! He's good is Greg int he. . Marc Maron on his WTF (Steve O episode) spoke about people passing at he beginning in relation to P. He acknowledged that P wasn't one of his guys but did a good job reflecting and talking about loss. Comin str8 outta Preston...

I think he must have bought them on CD - at least the Stevie Wonder one - because he tweeted / instagrammed something about listening to it in the car on his way home.

Dale Bozzio released an album, Riot In English, on Paisley Park Records in 1988. You may already know that. TRUE BLUE

. Color me embarrassed - I completely forgot about that. Didn't she also re-make "I Would Die 4 U" at some point? . EDIT: Yes, she did, in 1999

The album reunites the early 1970s classic lineup of Carlos Santana, Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Mike Carabello and Michael Shrieve and marks the first time in 45 years that the quintet has recorded together, since 1971's multi-platinum classic Santana III. Joining the core Santana IV band in the studio are current Santana members Karl Perazzo (percussion) and Benny Rietveld (bass), with vocalist Ronald Isley guesting on two cuts. Santana IV features 16 all-new tracks written and produced by the band. The origins for the reunion go back several years, when Schon suggested that he and Carlos Santana record together. Santana liked the idea but went on to suggest that they recruit Rolie, Shrieve and Carabello for what would be called Santana IV (picking up where they left off on Santana III). After initial writing sessions and rehearsals took place in 2013, the group recorded throughout 2014 and 2015, amassing 16 new tracks that combined all their signature elements – Afro-Latin rhythms, vocals, blues-psychedelic guitar solos, and percussion work.

I actually had these all put aside for me to buy from Electric Fetus when I visited for the tribute show.. I ended up having less cash with me on the trip so couldn't buy them all so went with missing persons, the gospel CD and the chambers brothers and streamed the others (knew the Stevie one well). Amazing albums, truly inspirational. The first track on talking book has massive similarities to 1999 with female vocals first then male then Stevie in first verse and there's a harmonica solo on the chambers brothers album that prince sampled for "thieves in the temple". I also hear a huge sonic influence from that Joni Mitchell album - especially the way the guitars sound, they really sound like guitars on Princes first two albums... I really feel like he was going back to relisten to big milestones in music for him... "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

It kind of surprises me that he was buying Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book" and Joni Mitchell's "Hejira" because he was a big fan of both artists and these are 2 of their more famous albums. I would have guessed he would have already had these albums. Maybe he had them on vinyl only. For the record, I grew up listening to "Talking Book." I love Stevie...he's my favorite musical artist of all time. Live 4 Love ~ Love is God, God is love, Girls and boys love God above
