I'd be interested in compiling a list of songs and albums (NOT ARTISTS) that Prince was known to have liked (or at the very least, consumed). For example - Susan Rogers said during her RBMA interview that Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill was blared around Paisley Park when it first came out. Another example - Electric Fetus revealed that the last time Prince was in the store he bought Stevie Wonder's Talking Book, Chambers Brothers' The Time Has Come, Joni Mitchell's Hejira, Swan Silvertones' Inspirational Gospel Classics, Missing Persons' The Best Of Missing Persons and Santana's Santana IV.

I remember someone (an engineer perhaps) saying that he was a huge fan of the "Broken" EP by Nine Inch Nails. I fully believe that was the influence for "Pheromone". It was also said that he asked Trent to remix a song around the same time, but Trent got mad when they crossed paths in a recording studio hallway and Prince just walked straight past without acknowledging him.

It's interesting to me as a huge Prince, Michael Jackson and Nine Inch Nails fan because Michael was also listening to NIN and was said to have loved "The Downward Spiral". I also fully think that NIN was the influence for MJ's "Morphine". The beat of that track is very industrial and brings to mind bands like NIN as well as Skinny Puppy.

Yes, actually i think somewhere i read what fascinated Michael the most about the album was the production, something about the drums, as far as i can recall. Morphine is very NIN.
