I agree - "There's just as much hunger here at home" . I really think it would have been better helping the Minneapolis school district (Like Mattie did) or somewhere with a messed up education system like Detroit. . We have been helping Africans get healthy and become literate for years, and has it helped, well given the non stop civil wars and political instability - NO. 55 years after the winds of Freedom blew through Africa, most places are much worse off than they were under so called Racist regimes. . Sorry it has to be said, all my charity money goes into helping struggling locals in my own country rather than people overseas. After all wasn't that was the real reason P did not do we are the world...there are people in need within our own communities. Not sure how he felt later in life though.

Here is another new article published by Minnesota Public Radio on January 10, 2017 entitled "School in Malawi built in honor of Prince":

I also mentioned Mattie, as she got her Masters degree in Child Psychology after she left John and Prince and Tyka had grown up. One of the books said she worked in the Minnesota Education system as a Psychologist, so in a way she was giving back to the community too. . Education runs strong in the Nelson/Shaw family, as the books mention that Mattie steered or tried to steer him away from music, so he could get a decent education. Has she had her way, Prince's musical dreams would have died with Shampagne and he would have been at some college getting a post grad degree. Probably could do it too, all the books mentioned he sailed through high school and got his diploma early, so had music not worked out, Prince would have been in school. The cynic in me thinks this is Omarr's way of pushing himself as Prince's main heir. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

[Edited 1/11/17 13:31pm] That's harsh considering that the children who will have the opportunity to attend these schools did not cause the political corruption and turmoil that they face. If you only donate locally that's your business but some people see the benefits of giving globally. I can't find one bad thing to say about Mani's charitable efforts because it's more than I'm doing right now.
