He had both houses bulldozed. It could be a tax thing. Perhaps there's less tax on land, opposed to structures or a home + land. John L died in 2001, and he had the purple house knocked down in 2003. Neighbors weren't happy because it possibly depleted the property values in the neighborhood.

As far as the yellow house on Galpin, the rumor that Laura mentioned (and that I've mentioned before) was that Manuella wanted a lot in the divorce. She was being greedy, and she wanted the house. So, Prince had it demolished, and shipped it to her in 18-wheel tractor trailers and basically said "here, you want the house, here it is". Now, that's the rumor, I have no idea if any part of that is true. But if it is, what a juicy-ass story!

The yellow house was incredible (from the outside). I have always liked the architectual style of the house and often wondered with that mindset, how the house was on the interior.

I am sure with out any structure on the property, the tax value was considerably lower. So much history and music was recorded in the house John L resided in.

I also heard the rumor of the destruction of the house. It is interesting that Prince and Mayte lived in the same house, and Manuela wanted it. My wife would have told me to bulldoze anything that had something to do with my ex.

Well, remember there are clips of the interior of the house in the "Gett Off" videos.

In reality, the yellow house was around well before Mayte or M2. The house didn't have to do with Mayte or M2. Anything M2 related to that house and other women is her own conjecture, not Prince in that regard.

I kinda think Manuella was just one of those type of women who thought once you're married to a dude, and you get divorced that the woman gets the house by default - because she's a woman. Who's going to put a woman out on the street? The guy should be a man and get a job to get his own place. The same kind of women who think they don't have to pay child support if the child lives with the father, but expects it if she has the children full time. Well, I guess hunty figured out the truth real quick.

Forgot about the Gett Off video.

Very good points you made. Prince resided in the yellow house, if I recall correctly, the longest. I thought Prince gave Manuela the Toronto house. Either way, it was a nice house. I had heard it cost around $3M to build back then. It looked like 3 stories from the back of the house. Was the house rigged for recording like the purple house?

In regards to location, how far was the homes from PP?

I think it was a split level home, which always sorta looks bigger than it is, but it could have looked like a 3 story if the basement opened up to the backyard.

Yes, he recorded at the yellow house. Kiowa Trail is south of Paisley Park, and Galpin is north(east). Galpin is roughly a mile or so. Kiowa was a tad further south from PP. But they're all relatively close to each other. I included some pinpoints from Google Earth snapshot for you. I also marked the Dakota Ave investment property house noted in this thread, too, just for reference. The land between the yellow house (Galpin) marker and the lake, and straight south to the road was owned by Prince. He could look out of Paisley Park's front door to the north and west and see empty land that was all his.

If you find the Galpin property on Google Earth and zoom in, you can still see the symbol in the circle driveway. You can still sorta see where the house sat, and the pool. It's been filled in at this point, and grown over. There is still a pathway that led out to a gazebo in the yard. I think there was a tennis court, too, but I forget off hand. It was such a cool plot of property I think. I'm not sure why he wouldn't want a cozy home to call his own like that, instead of living at PP all the time.

It is a juicy story and funny as hell. I hate saying but if it is true good for him. biggrin

Thank you for doing this. I enjoyed seeing this and putting everything into perspective. The Galpin house was a split level home from the photos I saw back in the day. I remember the tennis court, gazebo, pool, pond and windmill. I think it also had a "guard shack" at the entrance, but I am not sure on that. I did forget about the symbol in the driveway.

With Galpin being closer to PP, perhaps that is why he let his dad reside in the Purple house. Pure speculation on my end.

Prince definetely had Chanhansen fever!

There is a guard house on Galpin itself. The house sits about 100 yards back. He just wanted a bigger house, and his dad ended up at Kiowa out of respect and taking care of his family most likely. He owned another house that either Omar or Sharon lived in. (It was on that big list of properties on here that I can't find.) I feel like he bought the house his mom and Hayward lived in but I can't be certain on that right now.

Chanhassen is a nice suburb, so it stands to reason it's where he'd live and be productive.

On that MplsStPaul magazine cover it says "the world was his stage Minneapolis his home". I guess being a Chanhassen resident it irks me a bit. I get that Minneapolis is a well known city and Chan is a little 'ol exurb but apart from one house in Minneapolis all the property Prince owned in Minnesota was in Chanhassen. One of his former engineers, Dave Hampton said his favorite place to be was Studio A at Paisley Park. So as far as I'm concerned Chanhassen was his home, not Minneapolis.

Two things stuck out for me...

1) If the rumour of him building a new house are true for these properties, it seems to me that although the house would've certainly been comfortably appointed, the houses in the pictures were modest. I liked that P didn't seem to need fulltime extravagance.

2) If the rumor about dismantling the Galpin house and subsequent delivery to MT are true, good for him! Sorta like paying an unfair debt in full but in pennies.

Reminds me of the early P days, being told he needed to wear underwear so he went onstage in underwear...but no pants. Lol

You want the house? Here ya go.

Very literal, P. Ha!

wink cool Lol

1) Remember, he didn't live in any of those homes pictured. He owned them as investments. They were rental properties, and he was the landlord. I don't know about whether it was him or someone else planning to rebuild on Kiowa or Galpin.

2) That's literally how I heard it. "You want the house? Here ya go." with the trucks delivering the remnants to her without her knowing they were coming. Such shade!

Well Dr. Funk ( I do not believe everything he states) said that Prince left M2 and stopped speaking to her and that he was taking messages to Prince from M2 mostly about the school she was building in Mali. Prince did not want to talk to her. Something bad happened between these two and it was obviously a bad blood if she tried to go after his houses.

Malawi.

That must've been the school they just had a video posted about yesterday. I'm pleasantly surprised that MT actually followed through on that and the school was actually completed. I still don't care for her, but she did finish the school in October apparently.

Looking back, Chanhassen was a really good fit for Prince and PP. The community respected him and Prince had the ability to maintain his privacy.

Chanhassen seems like a very nice place.

Thanks for all the information you provided and I enjoyed your perspective on the subject.

Well, it's supposed to be about the kids and community anyway, whether P's name was in it or not. I guess it fit in with his anonymous Philanthropy ideals. I think he would've been happy about it, but I still have my reservations regarding MT. I don't get genuine vibe from her. Time will tell. I wonder how EB feels about his wife galavanting and leaving their family to devote her time on behalf of the exhusband she chose to divorce so long ago. It seems very odd to me, but it's none of my business. I'm glad those underpriviledged children will benefit. I just hope somewhere along the line someone might help children in P's community as well. There are underpriviledged children right here in the US.

Well MT was the one who came to him with the idea to name the school. According to Dr. Funk he was the one who took the message to Prince who he said did not speak to MT anymore and sent message throught him.

P knew her better than we did, but I don't trust her. I don't know why. I just feel she's got ulterior motives.

Glad the kids have a school though.

Looks like another property is up for sale. 2169 Red Fox Circle. $600K. House hasn't been built yet so photos are of a similar style house. This is a nice neighborhood, right across the street from the large piece of land he owns on Galpin. I'll be curious to see what the estate does with those larger plots. I think the one is over 140 acres and land alone is worth $13M.
