The best thing about him: Unity. We are all batshit crazy but the reason Prince was the greatest:
He taught blacks how to like rock
He taught whites how to like soul and funk and R&B
He taught the world how to mix both for fun and art going insane.
You either get it or you do not. All you others say Hell Yea!! | |

* I get your point, but I, like many African Americans, was a rock fan before I was a Prince fan. I was a Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, etc fan before I was a Prince fan, as were many other African Americans. I think another way of stating it is that Prince seemed to present a new way to amalgamate sounds that is built on the past while creating something new simultaneously. If nothing else, he re-amalgamated sound after rock had been coopted by white radio stations to re-segregate playlists after the “Death of Disco” movement that redrew the lines separating black and white listeners. Yet, be that as it may, again, many African Americans dug rock long before Prince. He was able to reintroduce Little Richard to Marvin Gaye and Smoky Robinson while adding dashes of P-Funk.
