My Little Pill I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R.

donnyenglish said: Breakdown June Clouds "Intoxicated" in Breakdown refers to alcohol, not drugs. There are no drug references in June - only some crackpot theory that it's a reference to the horse line in SOTT. I think the "high" referred to in clouds is intended as something other than drugs.

How can 'Pop Life' not be at the top of such a list? The theme of drug addiction is its primary vehicle for other metaphors. . 'Allegiance' ("I'm addicted to your junk, and I'm dying. . .") .

Some of these songs have multiple meanings and any drug references probably weren't the main idea he had in mind. But if it evokes those ideas in the listener, Prince always left it up to you to feel it your own way. I don't think all of these songs were actually referencing drugs, some will always remain ambiguous. Nobody I know gun' bite

It doesn't seem too crackpot to me. It was never unusual for Prince to make direct or indirect allusions to previous songs, and it seems fairly obvious that the burning pasta in June has a deeper meaning (though I have yet to figure out what). Just to clarify, I'm not by any means saying the song is actually about horse, but a Sign o' the Times reference -which isn't exactly an obscure reference to make- wouldn't have to be taken literally.

He never mentions his ecstasy experience in a song that cause him to shelve the black album. "love's the only drug we do in here"-Prince

I was thinking about the line where he asks 'Will you take another pill after morning or play the fool?', but you are right about the old ganja

I'd say most songs that directly reference drugs have been brought up here by now, but you could argue that although not directly referencing drugs- Anna Stesia is about MDMA. Seen as it's pretty much accepted round here that that song is about the night he took the drug and had his religious rebirth that resulted in Lovesexy. He is also using double entendre with the name 'Anna Stesia' as it could be seen as 'anasthesia'.
