PICTURING PRINCE sees the late icon's former art director, STEVE PARKE, revealing stunning intimate photographs of the singer from his time working at Paisley Park. At least half of the images in the book are exclusively published here for the first time; most other images in the book are rare to the public eye.

STEVE PARKE started working with Prince in 1988, after a mutual friend showed Prince some of Steve's photorealistic paintings. He designed everything from album covers and merchandise to sets for Prince's tours and videos. Somewhere in all of this, he became Paisley Park's official art director. He began photographing Prince at the request of the star himself, and continued to do so for the next several years. The images in this book are the arresting result of this collaboration.

You could have googled him and looked at a fairly recent article where he talks about his time working for Prince and shows some previously unseen photos. You could have done all that and posted the results here and contributed to the discussion.

Well, Bart also posted a thread about an upcoming book by Jim Walsh (the journalist whose words were used by Prince as liner notes for the Gold Experience), and then there´s Duane Tudahl´s project.

I´m really looking forward to buying both books.

And I think Alex Hahn´s new project and Mayte´s book might be interesting, too.

This photo book sounds alright and I think I´ll buy it but I wish it had more pages than 100.

I´d love to see a similar project by Alan Beaulieu....he worked with Prince during a very interesting phase ( Controversy/1999) and has lots of pictures that we haven´t seen yet.

Don t expect too much. I always thought Parkes artwork and photography was pretty awful. Prince has worked with some great photographers but Parke is not one of them.

You'll get no opposition from me. It's just baffling to compare GB's artwork with Parade, for instance. It's odd that he continues to get work from so many.

I am surprised that Parke has kept the copyrights to his pictures, considering Prince was in the habit of buying them or forcing harsh restrictions (e.g. concert photos only being used a single time, magazines not being allowed to have their own sessions etc.).
