Except he didn't, as explained in the a.m.p post earlier in this thread.

Thanks, Bart.

For those that don't want to bother to read what I posted, a relevent excerpt:

"Lemme give y'all some history...
When the concept of Princemas started in 1994.. Howie T was the first
to do an actual ALL PRINCE remix tape.. He did 3 and the final was
"The Remix Experience" which ROCKED! It centered around the Gold
Experience LP prior to release... 14 copies were made and distributed
to EACH band member.. Bother (Weak a*s) Jules, Me, Jugghead, Howie,
Prince, and some unnamed folks in our little crowd... We EACH signed
agreements NOT to give the mixes out... So Jules gets an idea.... Lets do a "remix Experience" of our own and
sell it to the fans.. Princemas is HOT and did well so why not..
Well, Howie T was called in for idea's and the ORIGINAL "Remix
Experience" was used without his knowledge! THAT is the GOOD part of
the CD!!!!! The rest (Non Howie T parts) SUCK BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! WEAK
BORING HORRIFYING MIXES with BAD LEVEL MIXING and TERRIBLE choices of
samples!!!! TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY UNPROFFESIONAL SOUNDING!!!!!

Howie T gets NO PROPS for the work and idea's and Jules name goes on a
HORRIFYING WEAK MIX!!!!!!!!!! Howie is a bit upset he didn't get
credit where it was due since he was told it was ONLY for Jules
PERSONAL pleasure and NOT to be sold for Profit!"

So I went back and read the original AMP post... am I to understand that Princemas (the version released in early 1997) was something that was created with Prince's knowledge/participation (and based on concepts that evolved over a multi-year period), or is the reference to Princemas just in the sense here that T's Princemas was blowing up, there was an idea that a market exists for this kind of thing on a quasi-authorized basis (as I recall Prince was still promoting Jules in 1997 and letting him DJ at PP)?

Next question... is the Remix Experience something that ultimately leaked out? (Yes Bart, I could probably just look this up, but please humor me.)

Last question... is Howie T the same as "T" (Princemas / AMP)? Is he the same T that posted that youtube video back in April describing his year of working at Glam Slam / Paisley Park circa 1995, and who found the movie manuscript in the trash when Duane threw it away?

I probable knew some of this stuff 20 years ago but I've been out of the loop and my memory is fading...

That kinda vaguely sounds like T, although I think he worked at the NPG Store.

On the last part... I believe that's right. He worked at one point in the office building above Glam Slam and then later at the Uptown NPG Store IIRC. So that's the T who made/sold Princemas?

Separately, I appreciate how you ignored the question where I asked you to humor me so I wouldn't have to look it up. You are always consistent, which I can respect. lol

Yup. He's also responsible for the EX copy of Dream Factory (the album), the 12" "box set", Corporate World, etc.

Missed that one. IIRC Jules sold his Remix Experience online, they were CDRs I think. I vaguely recall that there was a rumor this put him in Prince's bad books for a while.

.

God this is all so long ago. We really should have documented this in a Wiki, but chances are that would have gotten taken down anyway...

According to Dawnation, which is the only contemporary source about this still online AFAIK, the CD was released on Jan 27, 2001, and was only available at DJ Music Emporium, a music store in Mpls, which also may have sold it by mail order (the store's link is now dead so I can't tell). It seems the CD contained 3 additional, then unreleased Prince tracks and that it was promoted on NPGOnlineLtd (even though Dawnation says the CD is "more or less unofficial", which I guess just means it was a limited, non-label release). What I've read later, I guess here, is that Prince wasn't pissed about TRE being released but about the 3 bonus tracks that Jules would have added to it without P's approval, but IDK the source for this info. Of course TRE was immediately shared on Napster, I remember getting the mp3 only a few months later in 2001. http://www.dawnation.com/...tists.html
