87 yr old Minneapolis writer meets P at Super Bowl

Found this cute lil story after reading another older P article posted here.

ooooo this just gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies! 2 things that always have me grinning ear to ear is when an celebrity does not deny an old person or a kid the few minutes to just chat with them.

I know, right?

The thing that made me smile the most was that the guy is apparently a local Minneapolis celebrity of sorts and only wanted to connect with P cuz they're both from the same hometown, but P knew exactly who the guy is...and called him "Mr" as a gesture of respect for the older man.

cool

Sid Hartman is a LEGEND in Minnesota; it's actually no surprise that someone who watched sports as closely as Prince knew about him. Sid's STILL an active sportswriter!

A bit more detail:
"The two Minnesota legends ended up talking for three or four minutes, as the story goes, making Prince late for his news conference.

“He wanted to talk about who I thought was going to win [the Super Bowl],” Sid said. “Then we talked about North High School. It was only about five minutes I think, but it seemed like two hours.”
Source: Minnesota CBS, Apr 22, 2016

Right now, Sid (now age 96) is in the hospital after breaking his hip. But he's a toughie. Everyone thinks he'll be back at it soon.

I looked up Sid Hartman and he's wellknown and respected in the world of Minnesita sports and writes 3 columns and has a radio show. He even has a bigger than lifesized statue in Minneapolis. I figure P knew of him from following Minnesota sports.

So cool.

cool

I just found this video of Sid. he's being interveiwed by CJ, who P immortalized in the song Billy Jack Bitch for always making a point to pick on hin in her Star Tribune column during his career.

Sid is now 96 and was still working until a coupla weeks ago, when he had surgery after falling and breaking his hip. He's apparently recovering well.

I didn't know who he was cuz I'm not into sports and I'm from NY, but I had to know more about the guy since P knew who he was without any prompting.

Love hearing the backstory on this stuff!

OMG, laytonian,

thank you.

I listened to the radio interveiw about the story and it was so much better hearing Sid talk about how he and P discussed having gone to the same high school and P greeting him at sports events after they met and P inviting him to PP.

Made my day!

I'm glad you were able to listen to it!

I tried, but for some reason, it started cutting out about 2/3 of the way through....when Sid started talking about Walgreens. Sid loves everyone and you can tell he's upset on 4/22.

Sid sounds like one of those old school newspaper men and I was loving the 2 other guys' responses to him. I knew instinctively that he'd sorta look like Gary Marshall...and he did!

Hope he recovers soon.
