Items found in the vault how many songs?

With all the rerecordings and variations and music on the versions of songs what do people guesstimate the number to be of actual tracks he recorded

Oh okay - yeah, I hadn't seen that article before and didn't look at the date (May 3) before reading it. At first I thought it was something new - but soon I was cracking up at some of the "items found" as the list progressed. Very imaginative at the very least!

I think we have more than 750 outtakes in circulation, alternate versions included. On the other hand a version of a song without, for example, Clare Fischer's orchestra, is just unfinished and unlikely to ever be officially released. I'd assume only versions that comprise differences (as opposed to just elements missing) are of interest for release, but there are many of those we don't have. That includes all the songs given to others with Prince's vocals on them.

.

I think a little more than 300 unreleased songs are known to exist, regardless of how many versions of each exist, and most are from 1976-1995. It's likely a decent number of other songs from those years are not known to exist, since new ones have been discovered recentlly (4 Lust, for example)

.

You can probably add at least another 300+ from 1996-2016, + alternate takes.

.

So I'd say a minumum of 700 unreleased compositions and you can at the very least double that by including alternate takes that feature variations.

.

We end-up with a minimum of 1400 songs, that's about 140 albums, though releasing it all would include a lot of different versions of same songs.

.

If the siblings are smart enough to capitalize on it as much as possible during their lifetime (they're not that young anymore), hopefully we'll see the bulk of it released in our lifetime. But I'm an optimistic person by nature wink

Nice amount of songs and albums. I remember years ago there were supposed to be thousands. The speed he could record at was incredible, songs recorded in an hour etc so I think there probably will be demo's that are more complete than we think smile looking forward to it and hearing his genius for years to come smile
