Ugly Paisley Park merch To me all the recent memorabilia etc looks ugly ...and lacks P's unique touch. Is this an indication of what we can now expect?

What specifically is ugh? All of it? There seems to be a lot of it.

All of it. When P would release something it had a complete, uniform, unexpected asthetic. Could you have guessed 'Rainbow Children' before it came out? Or '3121'? etc. This stuff could have been designed by anyone...

Well from what I understand some of the items were from previous concerts so yes some of these designs were approved by Prince. As for the actual items under the PP label(?) I personally don't know who was in charge of the designs, it may or may not have been Prince. But since all of it is ugh to you then I guess it doesn't matter who designed it.

Well, no nothing has really come out yet. I just mean the design of the new Paisley Park, Prince family, official merch, The website etc. - doesn't feel like him. Could be anyone...

Oh you meant the items on the website. I thought you were talking about the pictures people were posting of their trip to PP. I've forgotten after looking at so many pictures which was which. I liked the moons.

Just the general presentation since he's gone - lacking all the specialness of everything he ever did. He could do something as simple as walk out and present an award or the like, and it was uniquely him - now stuff is happening under his name ...and it feels a little like starbucks.

Are you speaking as a person who has recently visited PP?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
My God, no no. I'm not refering to the place - I mean more what I've seen of the new official merch. Generic. I will however get to PP at some point. From Dublin, Ireland.

Oh. You're a bit further away than me. Seems the merchandise isn't visible on the site right now or I'm looking at the wrong thing. Who knows maybe they'll expand their selection in the not too far future.

The guy running PP claims all merchandise was approved by Prince. Can you post an example of what you're referring to? Paisley Park is in your heart

I am pretty sure that the same person that designed Prince's march over the last few years has been designing the Paisley Park stuff. - Also, I have been buying official Prince merchandise for years and there has been a lot of clunky looking stuff. "New Power slide...."

I dont think that anything was UGLY per se.. But as a person who works in design I would say that the Merchandising itself was not as enpointe as it could have been
The T shirts hanging messily for example...
One Shirt could have been displayed and the others kept folded in neat piles..
Visual Merchandising is an ART itself...
They should have called ME ! [Edited 10/16/16 18:49pm]

I haven't seen the merchandise but it's never going to have Prince's special touch because he is gone. No one can be expected to have his artistry.
It may be ugly but if no one buys it then there won't be enough money to pay the taxes and earn enough money to keep Paisley Park intact and it will have to be sold.
I think the best thing one can do is to buy the ugly stuff, take the tours, and sample the tasting plate or else in 5 years you'll be looking at Paisley Park Condos and that will hurt far more than some misprinted T-shirts.
I hope some music and videos are released soon - and for sale.

This is an interesting comment considering most of the items were already merchandise from previous tours: Love symbol necklaces, keychains, guitar picks, the piano and a Microphone mugs/shirts, the tamborine, and event most of the shirts are from the tours (musicology, W2Chicago/W2Canada etc etc). Which goes without saying that Prince had a say in these items. Not sure what your beef is with the small amount of items - that weren't previous concertn merchandise. Dance where y'are, just groove y'all.

Upon re-reading this person's post they are just complaining to be complaining. They even eventually through the family in for good measure.

The tambourine is nice..When I go to PP I will be buying one.Idk about the other merchandise but I am sure that people who attended the P & M concerts this year probably recognize those items..So P must of approved those.. As well as merch from other tours. Until the end of time

I think things maybe look like a tombola from some of the pics I've seen of the merch tent. Things just seem to be stacked and slung around. Business Manager to Cat Glover.

Seems like a lot of the complaining is coming from people who haven't been there. They see a photo on social media and form opinions from that. Paisley Park is in your heart

Agreed. I will say I do wish there was a little more variety, but that's my only complaint. They were sold out of the main items that I wanted by the time I got there. From now on, 4 U I shall be wild 💜

not about that - I am nothing but positive - but the paisley park posters etc, the fonts, the layouts to me are so generic, could be anyone! Everything P ever did was original & unique - even if I didn't get it at the time - in retrospect when I picture every release he did - it was unexpected, undeniable, unique - his back to us on the cover of 3121 - rainbow children - everything! A Multi-national corporation can't replicate that! Just, since he's gone - I feel the absence of his touch.

Wow, wish I new what merch. the post was referring to. I was there last week and all the shirts were from previous tours, so they had to have been Prince approved. There were some really unusual designs as well. The tote bags were okay and the posters are posters. I did buy the tambourne and it is of high quality-what is used professionally. And the official PP guidebook is really special. Overall, the best news was that every thing was reasonablly priced. They could have gouged us in there because everyone was sentimental after the tour and 1999 was blaring, yet they chose not to. I picked up guitar pics and the ping pong balls for friends all under $12. You can't even buy bootleg shirts on the street for what they were charging. I appreciated them making it affordable. And the Piano and Microphone shirt I bought is of the softest cotton I have ever felt. Our P. knew quality and chose us the good stuff.

Are there tour books for sale from the Welcome 2 America & Piano & Microphone tours? Was there a limit on how many Paisley Park tour guides you could buy?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No tour books. I believe there might have been Piano & Microphone books on the first couple of dates but they were gone. There was no limit posted on any merch. I wish I would have bought more than one guidebook-it's really well done. There were also guitar pics that have his name on one side and Purple Rain on the other.
