Jay Z is a snake, backstabber, horrible business man and person and he doesn't care about Prince or his legacy. This is a "business deal" to him.

Diiing! Correct answer.

The first thing people need to ask themselves is when did Tyka's husband become authorized to negotiate on behalf of the estate? That pic in and of itself is shady as hell.

Where did all the conspiranoids go? They sure as hell need to jump on this story.

yeahthat We are discussing this over in the other thread. MP and JayZ???

This news is making my stomach turn. I can't stand this snake/drug dealer Jay-z....say it ain't so!

When I read this bullcrap I immediately wanted to throw up.

WE KNOW THAT RUMOR TODAY IS NOT TRUE ☔️ DON'T EVEN WASTE UR TIME . DO LIKE & IGNORE IT.

... Which is fine and thanks for the heads up... but above is quite clearly a picture of Jay-Z & Maurice. So they've obviously met.

Thank you! It's hard to deny they've been in some contact. I have great concerns about persons in the music industry taking advantage of Tyka, Maurice and the rest of the family. I don't know their knowledge of the industry but they clearly aren't independently wealthy. Just being human, it would be hard to turn down Jay Z-or whoever you look up to-with their money, attention or "courting techniques." I just hope they stick together and don't let stars in their eyes sway them from realizing what they have and it's true value-both monetarily and as a part of music history.

And who is tweeting on behalf of the Prince Fam Club? No one has answered that. How do we know they're not a hired PR firm on behalf of McMillan and the family to manipulate our opinions.

it happened. Londell saying not to his knowledge means he didn't know about it. That photo is from Jay Z's office 2 weeks ago. As much as I hate tmz, the story is accurate which is why Londell is now stating he had no knowledge and Jay Z or Tyka are not commenting because it did happen.

I honestly think Warner Brothers should buy it because they knew Prince and his sound. Jay Z may put some rap spin on Prince's music. No, no

I think Jay-Z is smart enough not to do that. I´m not that much into his music these days but he strikes me as a very intelligent, calm, level-headed, reasonable businessman who knows that you just don´t mess with Prince´s classics.

He´s a bit of a fan, too. I doubt he´d want to ruin Prince´s music. He´s got too much class to do that.

Just imagine this... If Tidal buys the Vault... They should digitize everything AS IS, stream it and we can cherry pick all songs we want to download. Sounds sweet to me.

Oh no, that is not at all how Prince would want us to listen to his music. Go back and listen to the interviews, out of his own mouth, where he talks about how albums matter. He took such great care to assemble a story within his albums. That's the true artistry-and also why so many great songs are in the vault-they just didn't "fit" in his vision for an album. He spoke many times about how the singles driven society has killed the album and he was about albums. Yes, I have playlists upon playlists of my fav. songs-but I always know I am missing his genius and the experience he intended for me when I listen this way.

I haven´t really followed JayZ and his career moves lately. What makes you say that he is a horrible businessman? Why do you dislike him so much? He and his wife seemed close to Prince, were at several of his parties and Prince obviously trusted him enough to grant him exclusive streaming rights.

I don´t really like JayZ these days but maybe he´s not as bad as people say.

What I find alarming is that Londell seems to be left out in this deal, and that worries me to some extent because he was there for Prince when Prince needed his help. I´m worried that Tyka and her husband are not that familiar with the legal complexities of taking care of the estate.

NO. NO. NO AND NO AGAIN.

here people go again acting like they "know" Prince. Nobody actually knows what, if any personal relationship they may or may not have had. What we do know is they had a "business" relationship. If apple paid artists more than tidal from the get go, thats where his music would be. Same holds true for any other streaming service.

Why didn't Jay-z make that offer thru the proper channels? Tyka cant agree to, or sign off on that. I question ALL of his motives, especially when it comes to Prince

Yes, it is accurate because if it is in the Internet it must be true. 😳 Tyka has would have to get all of the sibs to agree and right now I believe Breamer and Londell are in charge unless of course I was right about the LLC.

From Billboard.com....

http://www.billboard.com/...ased-music

TMZ reported early Wednesday that Jay Z met with Prince’s sister Tyka in an effort to “snap up all the unreleased Prince music” held in the singer’s much-vaunted vault at Paisley Park.

Reached for comment, L. Londell McMillan, an advisor to the estate, told Billboard that he has “no knowledge of any discussions in that report,” and emphasized “there is no sale [of Prince’s music assets], and those responsible for the assets are not in discussions with anyone regarding a sale.” McMillan confirmed to Billboard last week that the estate is considering offers, including bids from all three major labels, to license -- not purchase -- Prince’s catalog and unreleased material.

The report claims that Jay made a $40 million offer to Tyka Nelson and her husband, Maurice Phillips, at a meeting in New York several weeks ago, although exactly what sort of arrangement was discussed is unclear. The report also says that Jay is in the running for “the overall deal for streaming rights” -- which seems plausible, as Jay’s Tidal music-subscription service struck an exclusive deal with the artist a few months before his death on April 21, and recently added several previously unavailable Prince albums to its offerings, although the terms and length of the deal are unclear.

Representatives for Jay Z and Tyka Nelson had not responded to Billboard’s request for comment at press time.

In the years after Prince’s initial deal with Warner Bros., which spanned from the beginning of his professional career in 1977 to 1996, the artist -- who railed against the traditional label system and doggedly (and at times, dogmatically) insisted on controlling the rights to his own work and likeness -- struck many different one-off deals with labels and streaming services, and even returned to Warner Bros. in 2014 for a pair of new albums, and a renegotiation that saw him gaining at least some of the rights to his Warner catalog.

Negotiations for the licensing rights to much of Prince's overall catalog, as well as to four decades’ worth of unreleased material, are ongoing. One high-placed source opined to Billboard that the deal is “Warner's to lose,” citing Prince’s long history with the company, and the good will fostered by the 2014 deal.

Indeed, as Billboard exclusively reported earlier this month, Warner -- through an arrangement with Prince's NPG Records -- will be the first company to release Prince music after his death, with a 40-track greatest hits collection called Prince 4Ever arriving on Nov. 22, and a deluxe edition of the artist’s biggest-selling album, 1984's Purple Rain -- including a full album of previously unreleased material -- slated for early next year.

Prince, who died suddenly of an accidental overdose on April 21, apparently left behind no will, which left his vast music holdings and other assets -- not to mention, exactly who his beneficiaries are -- in a state of considerable confusion. However, representatives for his estate have moved to clarify the situation, in May appointing Bremer Trust in Minneapolis as the temporary administrator. The following month Bremer appointed longtime Prince associates McMillan (who was the artist's manager and/or attorney for more than a decade) and Charles Koppelman (who, as head of EMI Records, signed Prince to his first post-Warner Bros. deal in 1996) as advisers on the musical holdings.

Exactly- I would bet money that Prince' s catalouge will not be sold anytime soon. The family is going to look for a way to keep the money coming in and you can do that by licensing out the music to streaming services and continuing NPG Records releases. Sometime 30 years from now maybe someone will sell the music outright but for right now it would not monetize the estate to the maxium value.

3 pages of people saying this... yet none of you have been able to post any examples. I highly doubt Jay would screw Prince like Jackson screwed McCartney.

They obviously met with Jay-Z. That's not to say anything was confirmed. The problem is Llondel barking about how it's all lies, when there evidence it's not.

Just because they showed up to that private party doesn't mean they were "close friends"

Nobody said they were best friends. I use the shop at the bottom of my street, I'm not best frends with the owner.

Prince was actually friends with Janelle Monae....not Jay Z or Beyonce. They were his acquaintances, not "friends"

Not sure what the point of this statement is... Prince wasn't best friends with the heads of the major labels... what's your point?

Showing up art a party or signing up for a streaming service is no indication of a friendship especially when Prince has never spoken about either in that context. Prince called Janelle Monae his friend. He called Esperanza his friend. There is no record of Prince ever referring to Jay Z or Beyonce as his friends.

Why are you obsessing over who Prince's friends were? It's business not friendship. Though Prince seemed happy with Tidal and repeatedly praised Jay-Z.

The picture doesn't lie. Clearly, there's been a discussion and Jay-Z's interest is logical. Personally, I thought Tidal was good for Prince. The last two albums would likely have never been released without it.

If you're interested in the more recent Prince music being released, along with other obscurities, Tidal is your best bet. Just look at the rarer albums over there currently.

Funny how people are ingnoring that Prince was complaining about more people, hidden people (unlike Jay-Z who is a street rapper) who (supposedly) hurt him...

Corporate people who Jay-Z could never be...But before they absolutely hate them....They really absolutely hate Jay-Z.

Once, a friend bought me a remix from Tokyo, that Prince was complaining about being released, and sold without his knowledge... She found it in the "Imports" section of a popular chain of record stores here in Atlanta of all places...

Mr. Nelson would walk into records in other countries --to see what of his stuff was relaeased over there--while he was on tour..

So, Jay-Z is super-awful? lol lol lol

If it was left up to Mr. Nelson, none of those tracks would be released (probably)!

He re-made "Extraloveable" --instead of re-mastering and release the original...

And Sticking with Tidal---is actually closer to honoring his wishes...

He was already there...

He left no Will that anyone knows about.

Plus, their children like and respect Jay-Z....Somebody is going to re-mix it the wrong way..Someone is going to put the "Artist du jour" on a demo track...

Tidal seems hungry, and an upstart... They may put it out faster for this reason.

I have no investment in whether the next-generation knows and respects Prince... There is nothing I can do about that... I do not know Tyka, and never met the man himself. The Carter Family have more younger fans... It could be a good move for those who care about it.

Just entertaining for a second that P’s unreleased catalog could be owned by Jay, the idea of having Meek Mill on a Prince track makes me cringe. Jay has a history of conforming to the current trends of the day and those trends are seemingly destroying what used to be great music. The dollar dictates which direction Jay will take with music and entertainment. That’s cool if it works for him. However, I doubt that Jay will respect the artistic integrity in which most of P’s catalog was conceived. Not if the dollar has anything to say about it.

Then again, there’s no guarantee that P’s music is “safe” in the hands of any other record company. *Sigh*.

That amount came from TMZ so it must be true. 🙄 Taxes can be paid in installments on a payment plan. As long as money is coming in the govt will work with you. What other bills outside of legal fees need to be paid? So far we have not seen a rack of claims of unpaid bills against the estate.

Okay...going to throw a curve ball out and see what anybody thinks.
I am thinking that WB haven't got much to put out OTHER than 4EVER and PR+ and that TIDAL who currently have a lot are gonna be getting some more.

The music business exec who opined that it's up to WB to 'lose the deal' is forgetting that one upon a time Prince's plan was to have Prince (WB) records competing against TAFKAP's.

In a real way, that is the current and possibly future situation.
It may be that WB have limited license now to market/profit from Prince's stuff or it may be that they have an exclusive deal on some for the forseeable and will imaginatively continue as they have done.

TIDAL? That's ALREADY like NPG MUSIC CLUB on steroids, surely?
