Is anyone else waiting for a REAL tribute?

In my opinion - the "tributes" so far have not really been "worthy" of a formal TRIBUTE to the Minneapolis Genius.

I mean, you have Wendy & Lisa doing their thing here...you have Shelia E doing her thing there... you had BET do their thing, you had Chaka and Stevie wow the crowd, and whatever is happening in April.

shrug

I want more.

My "dream Tribute concert" would be as follows;

  • In Minneapolis
  • In a large venue
  • Televised LIVE
  • Purple Family musicians - ALL of them - at the forefront.

That last one is a biggie for me. With SO MANY musicians that Prince worked with throughout the years, there is no reason to have to seek performers that had little to do with Prince while he was alive.

I want to see The Revolution.
I want to see Morris Day & The Time.
I want to see the New Power Generation.
I want to see The Game Boyz.
I want to see Mazerati.
I want to see Carmen Electra.
I want to see The Steeles.
I want to see Mavis Staples.
I want to see Ingrid Chavez.
I want to see Shelia E.

I want to see Patti LaBelle.
I want to see Andy Allo.
I want to see Judith Hill.

That lineup would make me skip a few car payments to get front-row seats.

It's what SHOULD be planned, to truly honor a musician as versatile and propficient as he was.

Anything less-encompassing, to me, is just not worthy.

I think that crap they just had in MPLS with Tony M. is all we are going to get. Sadly. I will take a Prince hologram concert any day over some dumb tribute.

No more tributes! Btw, Why did Morris Day get dogged out for every tribute so far?

I am waiting for a genius Oscar-level music Documentary of Prince.

no I'm ready to move on from these kinds of tributes. Plus I don't think dragging the likes of Carmen Elektra on the stage is appealing. Just because someone once slept with worked with Prince, I don't think we need to see them perform in a stadium.

-

The stone-cold reality is, many of these associated artists are not near Prince's level in terms of musical talent or showmanship. Seeing them all together might just continue to remind of us that.

Exactly. I'm pretty tired of the empty tributes by people like Madonna, she dated him for what .. a month in the 80's? Carmen Electra comes across as a no-talent bimbo that slept with him to further her career then split.

Ditto, except carmen electra. That's like a festival type of concert. I'd definitely move mountains (and the sea) to be on the scene.

AGREED! Just because someone doesn't like a tribute doesn't mean it's not real. His siblings were at First Avenue and at the most recent one. That's about as official and real as you can get. I don't need a parade of past employees or whoever singing songs he wrote for them. The Time, fine. They are their own thing, as is The Family, Sheila, Andy (mostly), Judith, and Mavis. There are too many NPGs to find the REAL one that everyone is going to love. The Revolution already played a show.

Enough with the tributes. Let's move forward, and see what the future holds for music releases, the museum, etc.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I wouldn't really lump Madonna and Carmen Electra together -- one is a successful performer, the other, well... My main thing is: I wouldn't assembled a tribute roster simply according to people who once worked with Prince. That fact alone doesn't make them compelling performers.

-

Individual artists should continue to pay tribute in whatever way they want. Sting, for example, recently wrote a song inspired by Prince's death (I haven't heard it). Prince influenced a lot of artists -- some he worked with, others he didn't -- and if they feel inspired to pay tribute in some (hopefully creative) way, they should. I just don't think it should be in the context of yet another big bloated arena concert.

Why can't you start your own personal tribute? It is not to P's family and the associates and the rest of his camp to find you closure or to have a real tribute. I had my closure and healed months ago. I had seen a lot of tributes over the last few months and thats cool because most dead celebrities don't get a tribute.

No, I'm satisfied with the tributes that have occurred. I would love it, though, if there was a yearly "celebration" type event at Paisley Park. I don't want the Prince community to split up forever.

You really just passed over THE FAMILY and 3RDEYEGIRL in favor of CARMEN ELECTRA and THE GAMEBOYZ!?!?!?!?!?!? talk about craziness.

Shit, if we're going for a stretch here with the performances I'd rather see APOLLONIA 6 back together on stage before any of those two fools you picked lolololololololololololololololololololololol

I'm down with any tribute but what I really would like is for some tributes that aren't trying for some sort of national coverage. I'd love to see small local tributes, youtube videos by fans and all the great comments here.

.

Don't get me wrong - people are free to do as they wish and it's cool - but those are the types of tributes I wanna see. Mostly everyone here getting creative and stuff in my town by people who have nothing to gain but happinesss and closure and love for one another.

When did Morris get "dogged out"? He was great at Autism Rocks.

Even though I am relatively new to the community, I would not like to see the Prince Community split up. A yearly celebration at Paisley Park would be great especially around his birthday even though in latter years he did not celebrate such. With every other entity doing its own tribute could become stale at some point.

A yearly music festival at PP has been brought up on other threads. I think it is a great idea.
