Curious what your picks would be on this, I am looking for 10 songs that showcase Prince's diversity to give to a relative. Songs that are completely different from one another, songs that would make folks who are uncschooled in all things purple say things like....."this doesn't sound like Prince"

As a fan of his since the early 80's I have my list, very curious to get all your input as well though.

Ha! I was only just thinking this today. He is so musically diverse: pop, rock, funk, soul, jazz, blues, reggae, Latin, there was nothing our man couldn't do!

Playing through his albums in chronological order, I find it really fascinating listening to how super-refined his piano chops became over the decades. I'm especially digging the One Night Alone and The Truth albums this week and I also really enjoy most of the Xpectation album when I'm in the mood for instrumental music. Plenty stuff on there that isn't anything like Purple Rain or Little Red Corvette, LOL!

In this order I think you would be able to pretty easily show that the man wrote like he is was at least ten different men (added an extra in there at the end but I'd advise if you're stuck to only 10 remove Joy of Repitition on here to keep the diversity higher - that way the jump from Electric Chair to Don't Play Me is totally jarring - which is what I tried to do with each track change on this one):

I've listened to The Current's A - Z broadcast of Prince's catalogue a couple times and what struck me was that you could start just about anywhere in Prince's catalogue and the 10 songs in a row from that point would be incredibly diverse.

Tell me about. I had arguments with people in the past when they thought I was lying that Prince was behind the Time and Vanity and some of Sheila E's hit songs. And that isn't the only argument when people thought I was lying when I told them that Prince did a particular song.

The style of the music on both are completely different despite the saliency of the guitar sound, from the tempo (much is quite slow in Hardrocklover only), the vocal range (Prince uses quite a bit of his lower register on Hardrocklover only between the screams, not so in Bambi), the background music and sounds are consistent with modern music in contrast with Bambi, etc. It those are my two most similar songs on my list, Thank You for the compliment.
