Listening to Diamond & Pearls album to day and I have to say... This album would of been regarded as a "classic" if it hadn't been for Push and Judghead! OMFG. I almost forgot how fuckin' awful those 2 songs were and are! WTF was Prince thinking when he thought "yeah, these are great songs and my fans will really like them!"
I have passed kidney stones that were more tolerable than those songs! I know "Horny Pony" was pulled from that album, which isn't that much better, but what other songs were recorded for that album and not included??

They are corny as hell but I still love the entire album. And I disagree. Not everything has to be a masterpiece- not everything has to be so serious. He was having fun with that album-- I love all of it.

don't get me wrong, I do like the album BUT those songs simply have no place and have not aged well in 25 years...

Your opinion is that they have no place- I feel they do-- We can agree to disagree

Average Prince album but the songwriting is way too conventional for Prince. It was a noticeable fall from his genius "GOAT" creative period, but it is an unfair comparison. There has never been another.

Those 2 songs have been my least favorite on that album since day one. Album fillers. They belong on "The C sides". lol.. "Insatiable", "Cream", and "Money Don't Matter" are my favorites. RIP Prince!

They were not even singles.

By 1991 album formats changed and people expected longer albums for CDs and cassettes. No more 9 track sets to fit LPs. Although Push and Jughead are by no means highlights on the album, I get their place at adding some uptempo fun. Maybe Schoolyard could have been (a little) better? Horny Pony had the same purpose as Gett Off so I get why that was dropped.

I think Push minus the rap about Rosie's mama or whatever.... is the coolest song on the album. That wacked Prince guitar and funk beat living alongside that Clare Fischer orchestration. Oh lord - that is the sickest groove I'd heard in some time. Seriously - I have shown people that track to show people that Prince was still kicking ass in the 90s (also Live For Love) and they were super impressed. . Jughead has the same beat as Housequake - musically all these are REALLY strong tracks. Is it the rapping? Is that what your issue is with these?

Push is great. I think it's my favourite song on the album. I like the groove of Jughead as well, never understood the hate for it

The new beginnings boot is a great version of dnp ... Minus something funky this house comes, its all killer no filler ... Schoolyard is a fun outtake that is much greater than push or jughead and the horny pony demonis quite enjoyable compared to thevofficially released version [Edited 10/19/16 6:37am]

I'm glad Schoolyard never made the cut. Those lyrics are a big no for me. The days before 18 & Over

Yes Push is awesome and Jughead fits well with the evolution of rap.

I still love this album, always have and always will, despite its flaws (Tony M, Jughead, etc. ). It is such an uplifting, positive , joyful album. My favorite songs are Strollin, Insatiable, Live 4 Love, Gett Off, and Money Don´t Matter 2Nite. What surprises me in hindsight is how terrible the first version was before he added Gett Off and some other songs. I mean, Glam Slam 91 ? Seriously? I do like the unpolished, rawer sounding version though. I understand he had to use some fillers in the new CD age but come on, why add Jughead and Push when you have so many other great songs to pick from? He wrote some really great songs in those days and could have added some of the songs we know about that remain unreleased. Schoolyard and Horny Pony are not exactly songs that would have fit on this album. Love the Gett Off remixes and different versions (Violet The Organ Grinder, Clockin the Jizz, Gangster Glam etc. ). Would have loved to see Get Some Solo on the album instead of Jughead. Or maybe 1000 Hugs and Kisses....now that would´ve been great but I think that was written after the album was released, right? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

"Push" is cool IMO. I would've deleted "Jughead" & put the long version of "Gett Off" on it. Exiles of the Nation

Ah come on, Push isn't so bad. It's one of my jams. Jughead not so much...
I loved that Prince wasn't afraid to rap though. The man was fearless... [Edited 10/19/16 18:49pm]

"Jughead" is cool AF... Band sounds KILLER on it. Yeah, Tony isn't a great rapper but... P would go on to have greater lapses in taste that aren't as picked on... . You know what the most overrated track on the record is? "Money Don't Matter 2 Night." THOSE LYRICS. Very trite. Very much cliched. And the band sounds duller than a wheat penny. . When this album came out it was stone-cold LAST on my fave P albums list (it happened to come out on my b-day, which was summarily ruined by my disappointment. No joke. I was SO depressed that day). . And that after spending the previous two months STOKED over "Gett Off" - the song itself, the bitchin' ass maxi CD single, and the truly awesome video. . A quarter century later (!), I still place it well down the list - but compared to something as truly incoherent and uninspired as "Musicology" it DOES feel like a classic. . The track I slept on for years and now love - "Strollin'" [Edited 10/20/16 5:54am]

See that's my favourite Prince rap of all time..I love how he transitions from nervous to confident.

"Push" is pretty good. I think the reason why many people don't like it is because it sounds somewhat similar to "Jughead" as far as the production and the structure of the piece are concerned. However, it's classic Prince pop-funk, just done with the production values of the era. Walk Don't Walk

Push for me is one of the highlights on a mediocre album. it was the first Prince cd I bought (after buying some lp's since 1989) so expectations were huge, but it didn't fit my changing taste (to grunge) at all.
since then I have appreciated it more
