BTW, no "Contorversy" lyrics were sung, but a bit of the music was incorporarted into the jam of "I Feel For You".

Is this 2004 or 2009 footage?
Looking at the footage of Ellen and the audience, did the use of Bambi seem to offend anyone or are they kind of in on the irony of the song? It occurred to me that in the 2004 interview, Ellen called Prince sexy. Perhaps, using Bambi was partly a humorous reference to her calling him sexy and she was in on it. As if Prince was jokingly saying "I know you want me".

I can't imagine that this wasn't Prince having fun with Ellen and that she didn't enjoy it in the same spirit. I remember, in that same interview where she called him sexy, that she had brought her copies of his early albums with her. She was a long-time fan. As for the rest of the audience, I'd say that Bambi isn't a terribly well-known song as far as the average American is concerned. If you knew it already, you were in on the joke and probably liked Prince to begin with. If you hadn't heard it before, would you really be able to listen to all of the words, process them, and be offended? Probably not. I don't know about the version on Ellen, but there's a live version with 3rdEyeGirl out there that I heard; I'd be hard-pressed to understand many of the words if I didn't already know it. You'd probably just be grooving along to the music. I'm so happy for the OP who found this. An almost three year search? Wow! I hope it pops up somewhere along the way. I just watched the Jay Leno soundcheck last night, and I found it very interesting and enjoyable. It was kind of fascinating to watch Prince when he was in more of a working mode and to see him and his band iron out wrinkles. (Toss the hat? Nah, it doesn't work. Okay, how about just hang it on the mike stand this time? Yeah, that's good.). Then watching him really turn it on for the broadcast was fun. Enjoy your video!

The camera pan to Ellen numerous times through the performances. She is having the time of her life. She has the biggest smile and look of excitement. Prince is clearly enjoying the moment as well. Very playful vibe.

I hope this becomes readily available soon!! Bambi ?! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015
