Prince an artist? I remember reading in one of Prince's very early interviews that he would probably be an artist/painter if he wasn't a musician. There's also the 1999-era photo of him lying sexily on a bed drawing/painting and also his statement in a Keyboard magazine interview when he says his piano playing style is more like painting a canvas (or something to that effect). Anyway, do you think that this might be another of Prince's hidden talents that emerges after his death and do any of you know if there are any works of art that he has done? Did he also collect art and what was his taste in art?

Good question! I recall a interview from when he was still in high school I think saying he "liked to paint too" or something to that effect. . I also remember hearing that he did the album art for the 1999 album, but I don't know if it's been verified. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

Mayte said that Prince did draw and was good at it. I read that in one of the bio books. She was talking about art they did for the Marbella house, I believe. Assuming it's a good source--and it seems to be much better than most--Per Nilsen says in Dancemusicsexromance, that Prince did the cover art for 1999. I'd love to see his photography. There are a few pictures out there of him taking pictures. From the stage out to the crowd, paparazzi, etc. I'd love to see the world through his lens. I bet he was a natural. And the MUSIC continues...forever...

As long as we haven't seen anything (as opposed to Miles Davis or Bob Dylan), I'd say, no, that photo on the 1999 inner sleeve was just a photo.
