Shout out for Beginning Endlessly I have been infatuated with the song Beginning Endlessly ever since I first heard it about 4 months ago. The vocals immediately reminded of Revolution era Prince, with that special blend of Prince and female voices. The song is just crazy catchy, like many of the singles of that era. Any time I play the 20ten Cd, it gets stuck in my head for days. In addition to the song's catchiness, beginning endlessly is a great phrase to describe life itself!!! Prince + catchiness + depth = great song. Not many people have commented on this song either positively or negatively here, so I am curious to read other people's comments. |

It is interesting how he used dirty here, which doesn't seem in the sexual way that he typically used it. It was another aspect of the song that gave it depth, the struggle for people to keep their hearts open no matter what they have gone through IMO, It is part of the positive message of the song and album. |

Somehow I missed this song. I heard it for the first time last week when The Current did their A to Z marathon, and I've been listening to it constantly. The sound was an instant hit with me as well. Prince's use of language has always been his biggest draw for me, and in addition to the lyrics mentioned here, I'm kind of fascinated with the title. Lyrically, this is a fairly deep, insightful "pick-up line" song. So, with the title, are we beginning endlessly in that this is the beginning of a permanent relationship (one that will not end), or is there a sense of endless beginnings (because none of the relationships are permanent)? I love that it can be read either way, depending on your level of optimism. | |

I love the whole 20ten album so much. I wanted it for a long time and when I finally got it I had forgotten mostly what the tracks all sounded like, so I got to re-experience them again. Glorious haha . Wish so bad he'd have released it in the US physically before. I know it's on Tidal now but so many people outside of this forum don't know it! | |

Amateurish. But like I said it's a great track, but more like a great sketch that shows Prince still had great ideas, but the execution like most newer songs, just pretty awfully. Lacking. And honestly, beyond the rare album like the single "lotusflow3r" sophistication is something he threw out the window. Whether it was he didn't care that much anymore, medical issues or drug abuse, it's pretty clear something major happened after the 80's for his music as a whole with exceptions to sound so half-ass. Actually "Beginning Endlessly' is great, professional with a creative concept behind the production, where he is taking the demo vibe of Dirty Mind all the way to a progressive barebones clarity. I think the production is excellent, from the dryness which makes it fresh to the clear attitude of not hiding the core elements with an almost thorny in your face attitude. It's completely there and strong. I think you're fooled by Lotusflow3r because it has the exact same production style outside of the effects heavy layered vamping on 2 or 3 tracks. Are you getting wrapped up in reverb? If you take a track from the 80's like Let's Go Crazy and simply went back to the raw tracks minus the reverb, echo, and flange, I think you would be surprised by how simple it really is. I'm guessing if he had used more conventional 80's style sweetening effects on any track from 20ten you would have liked it better. I loved when he really started to release some tracks in this dry bare bones minimal style, especially in the Npgmc days. It was like he was trying to make the musical ideas naked and certainly it was not a conservative attitude. He took this attitude live as well by performing a song like 'the beautiful ones' on tv with a dry lead vocal. It was like a dare. He was always trying to push his sound to what he felt was progressive and different from the mixing trend even if his 'genre' idea was conventional or touching upon popular cliches.
