I like the CD a lot but what the hell is "Gotta Stop Messin' About" doing on here?? If they wanted a b side on here they should've included "17 Days" or "She's always in my Hair"

I believe I have the edit version of "Girls And Boys" as a bonus track on the Peach CD single. Some other edit versions like ones of "Batdance" and "Glam Slam" were also released on CD as singles, but not on any album, you're right about that.

Yeah, "Peach" was a 2-part EP really of spill-over songs. And you spotted what I did, in that "Girls and Boys" edit was released on the Peach EP (disk 2). The times are off by 1 second, but of course it's the same edit.

I kind of thought "Glam Slam" might have been out there, too. "Batdance" had to exist somewhere in the form of an edit, because I saw the video with that edit in it (cutting out the second solo), and the edit was played on radio a lot. Not that either of those are indicative of it existing on CD, but it's probable.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Gotta Stop (Messin' About) was released as a single in the UK in 1981 so it's an A-side biggrin

Perhaps it is cheaper than a standard 'jewel box' type of package.

(which is more easily replacable when damaged or worn)

It's not a "cardboard package". It's a digipak. It is cheaper, as Udo stated, and is also enviro-friendly. Some record companies are using 100% post-consumer waste to manufacture digipaks, which is awesome. When they have the built-in plastic tray, they're often made from recycled water bottles. The rest is made from sugarcane, egg cartons, etc. If anything, it's heavy cardstock, not cardboard, IMO, although sometimes there's a fine line.

All of Prince's records since 2001 have been digipaks.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Most, yes, but not all: Ultimate, HitNRun Phase 1 & 2 were all released in jewel boxes.

No, this is not Digipak. It is the cheapest excuse for CD packaging. Digipaks have either plastic or paper trays that hold the discs in place.

These cheap cardboard sleeves offer no protection for the discs at all – record companies using them should at least have the decency to put the discs into antistatic inner sleeves to avoid scratching.

Also, it doesn't properly hold its shape. Very cheap and poor packaging.

It's a shame Warners is showing little respect for Prince by putting out his albums (AOA, PE, 4E) in this form.

Thank you!

.

I knew what they were, but these digiaks look like lower quality card than the albums from TRC to Lotusflow3r. 20 Ten is on some really nasty cheap cardboard they used for CD singles back in the day. This thing smells cheep and nasty and I know that this cardboard will wear quickly, just as well I will hardly ever use it, Burn the cd and put it on my shelf.

.

I am not familiar with the term "Jewel Case" it is not used in my country. I am assuming it is a CD case that is slightly larger than the CD.

.

Overall I am pretty disappointed with the 4ever album, the photos are more from the 1993 Hits out shoot and the booklet is just a list of dates. Overall I would give this a 2/10 for marketing and style.

I bought 4Ever together with 2 other two-disc Greatest Hits, and yes: 4Ever has the worst packaging.

Bowie's Legacy is also in cardboard but slightly better with plastic trays. The sleeve doesn't look very strong as well though.

Placebo's 20 years has a really nice package, it's kind of like a book and feels solid and luxury.

This is how WB should have released 4Ever.

$14.99 at HMV Toronto. Bought two!

At that price, I'm not bothered if the packaging is a little bit cheap. Keep those costs down, and spend the BIG money on deluxe reissues! cool

Yeah, that's it. As if Prince had no say so. It's just WB being disrespectful by distributing in a fucking digipak.

As pointed out before, this is NOT a Digipak.

Prince obviously supplied the artwork for at least AOA and PE for Warners, but that doesn't necessarily mean he wanted to have a say in which particular cardboard sleeve version will be used for the releases. Maybe he has made the decision himself – but even in that case WB could've advised him to at least use a Digipak, which is similar looking but more professional, and for which the artwork would've been easily adoptable.

Anyway, in the case of '4Ever' Warners obviously had a choice yet they opted to spend as little as possible.

This collection sucks. The volumes aren't even normalized. Play MNIP and then play G&B. Not even close in volume!!! I'm not going to adjust my volume for every track.

Is there a listing somewhere that states eactly where each track originates from (in other words, this came from this single edit, that came from that album, etc...)?

Thanks!

Then again, listening to the rest is good, the sound on it is really good and much better than I expect, plus its perfect for playing Prince at parties, driving music and when you only want your Prince in small doses. Some days I am just not into listening to 20 minute long xtended jams and alternative mixes of Wonderful ass. lol

It might not be perfect quality but this version of Moonbeam Levels is the best I've heard. And it's a revelation. What a beautiful song. Raw and nuanced. And a bittersweet reminder of why I fell in love with Prince's music all those years ago. I can't wait for the PR Deluxe version. Hoping for pristine quality.

Sloppy release. Mountains is from the album, not the single. You can tell because it cuts short just before it fades out. They managed to get the right version of it for the Peach single in 1993 but not here rolleyes . Let's Work doesn't fade out, which the single does, I don't know what version it is confuse God knows what they used for the sources across the board. Doesn't bode well for future releases.
