WTF!???!?!!1!!!?
.
What idiot at WB and/or the estate allowed a text by mr. Obomba to be used in this 2CD production?!
Did we forget 'Ronnie Talk To Russia'?
Are we not aware the fearmongering, the Russofobia, that mr. Soetero allows and facilitates?
Are we not aware that Barry plays less instruments than Bill?
So what does a text by the still-bombing Nobel Peace Prize winner do on this 'let us make a quick buck before Christmas' CD set?

Also: why do I fail to find a 'mastered by' or 'mastered at' mention?
They are not proud of their work?
Did mr Prince arrange for the mastering? Did WB have someone do it? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Prince didn't sound like he particularly liked or disliked Obama when Prince spoke of him on PBSs Tavis Smiley show. I asked Prince what he was planning to do. He told me , I'm going to look for the ladder. I asked him what that meant. All he said was, sometimes it snows in April. - book D.M.S.R. |

Noooo...
The only thing we know for sure is that Obomba probably liked Prince's music.
And he had some money.
Prince liked the money and did the gig. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

i am so disappointed in this set... even with moonbeam levels... I did order it... i will keep it but i am not going to open it.. i will put it away. i will get a copy of moonbeam levels some other way.
I did not care for what Obama said, he is no fan (But next to me and some of us here...who is?), his words were kind but not at all insightful... NOW THAT IS NOT my issue... MY ISSUE is there is NOTHING at all insightful about this set.
They could could have at least got ahold of any number of experts to sollicit short write ups od each of the songs... or had info on recording dates...something... anything!
Oh and the worst part... i hate seeing his full name... much worst preceded by the word Estate...

Just listened to Moonbeam Levels, and the quality really isn't far off from the best quality bootleg version I have of it. I guess things I thought were distortion in the boot version were actually apart of the original recording? Great tune, either way, and I'm glad more people will get to hear it. agreed. everything from the bootleg version is there, basically. some things are a bit more clear, others remain exactly as they are. like the about 2 seconds before he starts singing, you can hear the vocals already, like they'r coming down a tunnel, very faintly. i had that a lot in the old days, listening to cassette tapes. i would call it 'tape bleed' but i don't know if there's an official term for it.
i figured for sure that would be cleaned up on an official version.
just sounds to me like the best bootleg we had, cleaned up by professionals with million dollar equipment.
questions questions.
still, it's great to have it on an official hardcopy release.

I've compared it to the version from Blast From The Past 2, and I have to say they sound pretty identical. At first listen, I'm thinking there's no way the version in his vault has all of that distortion. But then playing it alongside Little Red Corvette, I notice similar distortion on that one as well. Anyone else care to shed some light?

In the tracklist we had first it was titled "Head (Sound Recording)".
Being a surprising inclusion (according to the fact that P selected the tracks), I was wondering if it was some kind of strange version.
If I'm not wrong, looking at what you posted, it seems to be the regular album version.
So no surprise.

Well, here is what Prince was quoted as saying after the White House gig, in an article that Prince himself tweeted out... https://twitter.com/princ...7258940416 https://www.washingtonpos...story.htmlPrince confirmed it Sunday at the Warner, offering his warmest words for the first family. “They were very cool to us, and I hope you’re proud of them because we are,” he said. “They’re doing the best they can.” |

. While I don't know how he recorded, his early 80s vocals always sound at least somewhat distorted, some much worse than others. That generally indicates the recording input levels were deep in the red and way too hot. Unfortunately that can never be undone or fixed. |

Yep, it's just the album version. The funny thing is I've been listening to Head a lot lately. It's such a brilliantly simple song. The lyrics are shocking and erotic and just so...Prince.

I'm still excited to have an official release of Moonbeam Levels. Even if you bastards say it sounds the same as the best leaks.
Moonbeam was the one unreleased Prince song I dreamed about being released to a wider audience. It sucks that it took Prince's death for this to happen.
I listened to that song for the first time at a very dark moment in my life. It's always had a special connection for me.
Anyway, I hope the people who haven't heard it before dig it. There's so much to discover with Prince. Here's to hoping the years ahead contain more treasures...even if us hardcore MFs have had previews for years now. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I truly hope that moonbeam levels won't B edited (including the piano fading at the end).
Length is 4:06 so fading might B included...

Just listening to it now, the sound is noticeably better than what we already had, although we already had pretty good so it's not a huge upgrade.
It has the same fade out coda we had in the bootleg of it that came out a year or two ago, that is to say it's a few seconds longer than, say, the version on Work It, but there's no additional Piano Coda after that.
(BTW I don't have the cd yet, this is from a FLAC download that was put up by someone, i'm assuming it's an actual rip but can't confirm 100%)

Yes, indeed, some details come out a bit better (any lyrics changes from what we had?) but it is not HUGE.
Still nice.
