. So what is the deal with these non-estate releases? WB will need the estate for goodies on the PR remaster. But what is this '4ever' release adding despite milking what is already there? 2 discs? thus no long versions? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Bring on the vinyl! I ll be buying it. Looking forwards to a clean Moonbeam Levels. Maybe they´ll release a single with an extra song> That would be nice.
As for PR deluxe... Finally. "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

A+ positive sign the vault may be handled with care, since the powers that be moved straight away to release one of the most anticipated unreleased Prince songs: 'Moonbeam Levels'. Something Prince stubbornly refused to do for many years, while fans gave him "the side " as songs such as Jughead and Mr. Happy got released instead.

With ample variations already in circulation of WB era hits releases, I was anticipating something more substantial wih regards to a posthumous compilation release. [Edited 7/11/20 21:43pm]

RIP OFF!!!! I already have The Hits 3-CD package, as well as the Very Best Of Prince and the Ultimate set, why should I buy YET another greatest hits set, JUST FOR ONE UNRELEASED TRACK???
An excellent example of CASHING IN!!!!!!!

Poor tracklist tho yeah, pure money grabbing exercise. It'll sell less now as a result as well. They could have done something really special and never done before with a career retrospective and we get this. Not surprised but Prince deserves better.

Yep I have got all those too, but I will still buy it!Like it or lump it. Simple as.

Will 4ever be remastered? Because if not there's really no point, we have 39 of these songs already and there seems to be nothing post 1993 - so we may as well just keep The Hits series? Oddly the cover shot is from c.2004 even though there is nothing there from that era! Why no 'Gold' and any of the hundreds of excellent unreleased songs? I'd rather have 'Hard To Get '81' or 'Baby You're A Trip' than another copy of Gotta Stop Messing Around. It's almost as if they are saying Prince didn't count after he left them / changed his name.
At least things are getting out but concerned this is just a cynical cash in with nothing really new. Lets hope they do a better job with the PR remaster. [Edited 10/21/16 1:06am]

. What is the current situation w.r.t. WB owning any masters/stuff? Wasn't Prince going to receive his masters back? . This is relevant because it determines who gets to decide on releases and this crap-looking 4ever release could have been avoided. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

He may provided Moonbeam levels to Warner Brothers and maybe he was going to actually work with them on getting vault material out.

. Not necessarily. . The role of NPG Publishing is to find commercial opportunities. . NPG Publishing could have approached Warners or Warners could have approached NPG. . Warners can't release anything without collaborating with NPG Publishing. .

Ouch. Only one new song drowned in a weak tracklist for a expensive cd set... This is WB, not Prince style.

/- Rumor has been around for a while and even if Prince said the remaster was ready but Warner Brothers was holding it up. Could have been true all along plus with revenue from streaming causing a decline in revenue he may have been more open to working with them.

A disappointing selection, and very (probably necessarily so) limited to his first WB stint - but every single song on that list is excellent.

I'm quite sick at the moment and slightly delirious (no pun intended) but if I'm reading this right, it means there are actually 3 albums on the horizon, not 2. There's the Prince 4ever greatest hits collection, the purple rain remaster and a "second album of previously unreleased material". I'm more interested in that last part than the greatest hits or purple rain.

As usual, whiny fans just don't get it. First, Prince had VERY FEW hits after he left WB. Yeah, WE may know he had some good songs after that, but big hits? Nah.
Second, this is a WB release. Guess what? That means songs he recorded while under contract with WB. All the other stuff after was on various different labels or self released. Do you really think all the contracts/rights etc. would be worked out that quickly? No. Third. Both of these sets were more than likely in the works before P died, just like the vinyl reissues. Fourth. Welcome to the world of posthumous releases, where one or two songs are tacked on to greatest hits packages so uber-fans will buy them. Fifth. There are people in the world who don't know all these songs! This is also for them, not just YOU!! [Edited 10/21/16 3:04am]

BartVanHemelen said: This does point to WBR "owning" outtakes recorded during their contract. Not necessarily. What we do know is that Prince used at least one song recorded during the WB period for a post-WB album (Rave). Take from that what you will.
