Having only seen Purple Rain, Im curious as to whether all P's movies are as good as I personally feel this film is. Not the best film in the world but no where near as bad as I had been led to believe.

Ive actually been wondering if it was biased opinions of Prince himself that gave the films this reputation.

I don't care what anybody says, Grafitti Bridge sucks!! I have never seen Under the Cherry Moon. The concert performances alone make Purple Rain well worth the viewing

I think the biggest problem facing Prince is the same one facing other Cats that are Music Artists making Films:it just reflects them within what they already do but doesn't expand them further.for instance in all of Prince's Films He was always playing a Music Artist&it didn't leave room for anything else."Purple Rain" Worked because of the timeing of the Music&also Music Video being still Fresh with MTV&All but for me that Film hasn't aged."Cherry Moon" was a bit more acting&I dug the story line.but I don't think Prince has Acting in the cards.I can't see Him making it with film beyond Soundtracks IMHO.

Generally, as movies, they suck. Weak plots, characters are pretty one-dimensional, acting is embarassing at times, some of the humour is weak, and any attempt at significance is shallow and pretentious. Music's good though.

Hey, they were all good in their own way. Look, Prince wasn't really trying to create something with a lot of depth anyway. He just wanted us to be entertained and enlighttened...er...or something. Obviously he's not Spielberg either, but I guess that's what people were trying to look for.

I liked Purple Rain but agree that it did NOT age well

UTCM was so weird and quirky that it's become my favorite P film. I think because of how odd it was it has aged much better than the PR or GB. Sure the acting is cheesy and so is most of the dialogue, but couple it with the black and white film and insanely werid and good soundtrack and you've got a winner!

GB was and is horrible. Even most of the 'live' segments are so dated now that it's painful...

utcm is a blast.

'Purple Rain' is a great movie.

'UTCM' has it's flaws,but there are still some redeeming qualities about that film.

'SOTT' kicks ass!

Grafitti Bridge did indeed suck. Purple Rain is fabulous and UTCM, I love too but I would never inflict them on a no-Prince fan. I think if we're all completely honest the only reason these films get watched is because Prince is in them and most of us have little or no perspective when it comes to that.

The thing is that people all have different reasons for either loving or hating UTCM. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with that particular film. You either love it, or you hate it.

I love UTCM, yes, you need to watch it knowing that it is overly dramatic..on purpose, but once you know that...it's GREAT!
now...I must confess...I've never seen SOTT movie but I just ordered in online the other day...so I'll be sure to watch it as soon as it comes in

They really do suck.. They're campy, poorly written, acted, directed and (in the case of Graffiti Bridge) produced. But Prince and the purple bunch is in them, so they're still fun!

I agree. Purple Rain is a bad movie with good music. Under The Cherry Moon is a very entertaining comedy. The latter is one of my favorites. In a wierd way even the melodramatic ending works. It also helped that I wasn't looking for Purple Rain 2. Graffiti Bridge was evidence that Prince only had one good movie in him.

i heard at a paisley park tour that the script for graffitti bridge was significantly altered from its original concept. so, the actual movie doesn't reflect prince's original screenplay

anyway i think he has enough talent to pull off a major role. in fact, it'd be cool to get the right screenplay into his hands and let him run with it.

i've always enjoyed his movies (regardless of the ratings) and i think the documentary idea for TRC was a good idea.

i wonder how many films he has in the vault? wonder if he has plans for making more?? i'd go see them
