What made you connect the song to Madonna? "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

It´s really pure speculation... the part where he says she was kickin´ with another girl reminded me of Madonna , Britney and Aguilera´s kissing years ago. Then he says she didn´t left the dirty world and he regret having kissed her before. Made me think of the moves she made to get attention and still be on spot. Probably has nothing to do with her, but she came to my mind.
Yesterday I saw you kickin’ it with another girl
I wish I never kissed your (spits in disgust) ugh

Pure speculation with nothing to back it up but, "Mad Sex" seems to refer to Mel B (Scary Spice).
So who knows...

Considering the song to be true, I have an idea who it's about with reasons why I believe. But, about Mayte... Here's how I see it.
1. Lyrics: "it wasn't your dress you had on, that wasn't your perfume"... These lyrics seem to suggest he was thinking this protege of his slept with a woman.
There's only 2 women he was with that I know of during that time (in the 80s) that had a ring on--Susannah and Vanity.

The song I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore. This song was recorded in 99. He was not with MT at that time. He didn't even divorce MG until 2000 I believe. http://www.vh1.com/news/2...nce-death/ I don't know what he said during his Montreux 2009 performance of this song but I did see his emotions--that he looked like he was hurting. I think something was definitely going on with him that night. Not just with that song.

You never know with P. We can think one thing that in his mind would mean something entirely different. Even on the forum here people were trying to explain that part of the song about the flower and several different opinions. I don't know of any of his proteges he was with in the 80s that he gave a ring to that was a virgin. Seems that flower part is the only throw off.

I think the 80s comment was just to keep it light later on and to make the song for us. Mayte was the only protoge he married.

Wow, I've always wondered who "She's Always In My Hair" was about. As it doesn't really sound like a love song. Slight annoyance even.

Prince had his own hairdresser for the past many many years.
The song has probably nothing to do with his hairdressers though. It's a saying. "She's always in my hair." Yes, it's about JJ. ILYBIDTrust You Anymore is about Mayte. Written in 2009, the year they split. [Edited 10/28/16 8:22am]

[Edited 10/27/16 14:46pm] "Pick the flower" = sleep with before ripe, I think, which we know he didn't. I think the biggest problem with a lot of insiders giving interviews is that they are bias. I mean look at Susan Rogers she was friends with Susannah and soooo bias, every love song was about her.....I don't think so....and she was putting that out there as if the shit was true...I'm like damn!!!! And yes some of his most beautiful love songs..it really is obvious common sense y'all. I mean beside his music, I feel like Vanity was the love of his life. She was just the ultimate inspiration. I'm hoping someone write a book about the two of them. I've been a long time fan of P. If u look at some of the old clips of v6 TV appearance yes u will see Vanity sporting a ring. I would love to hear the story behind that. Most definitely from Prince.....

I do think the "The 80s" remark Prince added into the song later was for us, his fans. I think he was shedding a different light on an old song. I also believe when he wrote a song for someone, he thought of another woman for it later sometimes, or wrote a song later for more than one woman.

Here you see Susannah wearing hers http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GdFPjlbp3HE/UXCUKTUvMcI/AAAAAAAAAj4/vn-nSkRse4c/s640/The+Fanmily.jpg
Vanity It's in clear view https://www.youtube.com/w...iCTMAvYwkM
There are photos I saw as well. Prince had even claimed her as wife in front of those reporters at the AMAs the first day he met her.
I do believe it's possible he may have wrriten a song (fantasy or real) and later related the song to a woman he wasn't with when he wrote the song--even if he was already in a relationship with another woman. He already proved he's capable of doing that. Either way, whether Prince intended to marry either of the 2 proteges or not, they both had rings on the same finger. He had them wearing it for a reason, I'm sure. So, yes, Prince gave a ring to both Vanity and Susannah. Even if it's not about Vanity or Susannah, that song has more than one verse that doesn't appear to relate to Mayte at all. It's just an opinion. In the song Adore that some said was about Susannah and some have said to be about Vanity, his words: You made love to me Like you were afraid Was you afraid of me? Was I the first?... One would easily think the woman never slept with anyone before him but we all know that's not the case with Susannah nor Vanity. As far as I'm concerned there could have been a protege in his life in the 80s that the world didn't know about that he gave a ring to. However, I do believe the good old days and him saying the 80s afterwards is exactly what it is. I don't see no other meaning than him meeting the woman in the 80s. The 80s alone knocks Mayte off the list of possibilities--even if he was talking about a virgin (if that's why you think it was about Mayte) because Prince knew he met Mayte in the 90s. Prince was involved with more than one virgin as well. The ring verse knocks Mayte off as well because we already know she was still sporting that ring during the time of the recording of that song. Or maybe the song was nothing but a fantasy. No one really knows. All of it is nothing more than speculation and it's ok to think it's about Vanity, Susannah, Mayte, more than one woman or even a man. Whatever floats your boat.

all this talk of rings.... ever hear of costume jewelry? prince didn't "propose" to the twin until after the family album, or so it been reported. i don't believe he proposed to vanity she would have mentioned it at some point and so would that TOB person who posts here. Honestly, I don't think he was ever truly serious about marriage at least until Manuela. I loved their costume jewelry, too--even Prince's cool stuff. I don't know about him proposing to Vanity. Actually, I haven't heard about him proposing to Susannah, either. I only saw this stuff mentioned on websites about both Vanity and Susannah, so I paid attention. Prince didn't confirm being engaged to Susannah nor Vanity to the public, as far as I know. I could be wrong. I read somewhere that was said Vanity wearing the ring was only so the guys wouldn't hit on her. She said Prince was extremely jealous. But honestly, It's of no importance to me if the rings were real or costume because the song doesn't even suggest whether he's talking about something real or not. The ring thing is merely in reference to the song I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore--nothing but the song. The other poster stated that she never heard about him giving the ring. So I shared the link to show that Vanity is wearing (real or costume) jewelry on a wedding finger. No biggie.

I'm always fascinated by this topic. I watched an early 90's interview with Ingrid Chavez where she discusses the fact that she was the muse for Prince's Lovesexy album. She discussed in some detail a few of the songs, and what specific events inspired those songs. But she definitely implied she was the inspiration behind the whole album, and mentioned nuances in songs that most wouldn't pick up... they were personal to their relationship/friendship.
I think Vanity inspired "Little Red Corvette". I recall watching Kevin Smith's tribute to Prince shortly after Prince passed. He gave more details about their conversations, and he mentioned loving the song "Morning Papers" to Prince and wishing Prince would've performed the song. Prince replied that he couldn't. Mayte wasn't there to dance to it. (This was about a year or two after their divorce.)
I don't think "Love U, but don't trust U anymore" is about Mayte. The biggest, flashing sign to me is the fact that he didn't "pick the flower". That's a metaphor for taking her virginity. He's saying he didn't have sex with her. And he's saying if he had have, maybe she wouldn't have let curiosity get the better of her and run off to have an affair with someone else. That aside, Mayte was so absolutely devoted to that man. Watching interviews from that time to her behavior now.. it's so easily seen that she was and is crazy about him.
I don't know who "Love u, but don't trust u anymore" is about, but I don't think it's Mayte.
I just wish Prince had been able to finish his book. I wonder how many of these mysteries would be revealed.
