The recent Jill Jones podcast around the the 1:13:30 mark http://podcastjuice.net/j...interview/ after she talks about plantation mistresses.

I listened it's a great interview. She needs to write a book.

What made you connect the song to Madonna?

It´s really pure speculation... the part where he says she was kickin´ with another girl reminded me of Madonna , Britney and Aguilera´s kissing years ago. Then he says she didn´t left the dirty world and he regret having kissed her before. Made me think of the moves she made to get attention and still be on spot. Probably has nothing to do with her, but she came to my mind.

Yesterday I saw you kickin’ it with another girl
You was all wrapped up around her waist
Last time I checked, you said you left the dirty world
Well it appears that wasn’t the case

I wish I never kissed your (spits in disgust) ugh

Pure speculation with nothing to back it up but, "Mad Sex" seems to refer to Mel B (Scary Spice).

He describes her in the song as a bushy head mulatto, flaunting animal prints & with a stud in her tongue. He also suggests that she talks too much...

I wouldn't suggest they were romantically linked. if not for Prince's rap:

Steppin' up on the others tryin' to make a jealous brotha
Get you nothin' but another night of vibration
One nation under your groove and still you can't break my cool

"Your" groove refering to the Spice Girls taking the UK by storm.

So who knows...

I wouldn't like to be the target of "Pearls B4 The Swine".

The softness of the delivery is precisely what makes it
a sharpened Commando knife that cuts your troath nice and clean.

I would also like to know to whom "Had U" is dedicated to.

They may be not heat-seeking laser-guided uranium-enriched missiles
like "Like A Rolling Stone" or "Idiot Wind",
but they're really not nice songs. Brrr...

Considering the song to be true, I have an idea who it's about with reasons why I believe. But, about Mayte... Here's how I see it.

1. Lyrics: "it wasn't your dress you had on, that wasn't your perfume"... These lyrics seem to suggest he was thinking this protege of his slept with a woman.

2. Lyrics: "And what happened to the ring that I gave you? What am I to assume"... According to Prince Vault site the song is likely to have been recorded in spring 1999. Prince was still with Mayte during that time. Also, at his Septimo show in Madrid, November 1999, Mayte is still wearing her marriage ring. Prince wasn't though. Tsk-tsk.

3. Lyrics: "I know you trust me, but you don't love me anymore"... Mayte was very much still loving on Prince during this time. Which explains why she was so hurt behind him leaving her. Which also explains why, in her mind, she was still married to Prince (her words).

4. He refers to the 80s when he says "the good old days" in more than one concert. Mayte (according to VH1 where she was on Hollywood Exes) met Prince in 1990 not in the 80s. She was still 16 in 1990 when she met him.

5. Was Mayte ever considered a protege or was she just his dancer?

I don't think it's about Mayte. If one was to think of his proteges from the 80s it's, in my opinion, rather easy to figure it out because there's not many of his proteges in the 80s that fits with the lyrics of this song. And the part about picking the flower... I have no earthly idea what it means, so I have no opinion about that part specifically. Considering his obvious emotions whenever he would sing this song (unless it's all an act), he was seriously in love with this person and she really hurt him. Also, think about how many of his proteges you saw wearing a ring in the 80s.

There's only 2 women he was with that I know of during that time (in the 80s) that had a ring on--Susannah and Vanity.

I read where people were saying the WDC song was because they (him and Susan) had a fight and she cried. Really? lol. I'm positive not only did Prince argue with more than one woman but he made more than one woman cry. But that doesn't say much anyway. It's the following below that led be to believe this song was about Vanity instead.

From the "original" Purple Rain script. I have original in quotes because I don't know if that script is real or not. I got the info about the script from here. I saved it from the site it was on and read every bit of it. Apparently the script was before Vanity left. So her name's still in it.

"PRINCE watches Morris a moment, then
eyes Vanity again. The heat between
them is apparent."

..."watches the Girls bowing to thunderous
APPLAUSE. Suddenly Vanity looks at him
and touches the earring she's wearing --
it's his Mother's. His knees weaken
instantly, and he locks eyes with her.
The heat between them is unmistakable."

When Doves Cry lyrics:
"Animals strike curious poses
They feel the heat
The heat between me and you"

He speaks on this heat twice in the script. Also, there's a part in the script where he looks in the mirror and sees her face and when he turns around to face her she's not there. He smiles. I guess it's no coincidence he's looking in the mirror while singing When Doves Cry.

I can't say for certain about anything I've read that P didn't confess to but some things seems clearly unlikely than likely. WDC, in particular, appears more unlikely about Susan Moonsie than likely. But I will not argue with anyone's beliefs. If someone believes it's about her. I thought it myself in the beginning only because that's what I was reading on websites.

And that Mi-Ling stuff is an excellent example of more unlikely than likely. Uh-uh. A big no. I still laugh thinking about her explanation of what "slow down" meant. Prince talking about how she "worked a lot"? Ok. Lol. I laugh at anyone who believes that statement to be true.

Prince singing a song about working a lot when it was near there all he ever did? Prince ain't never, ever, ever gave any indication of LRC "slow down" to be about someone working on their job too much. His words at the Montreux (2009) late show said enough without Mi-Ling's explanation. "Taking your clothes off for anybody... I thought you were saving that for me, baby". Mi-Ling (according to her) definitely wasn't wild and giving up herself "for anybody" and she surely didn't tell Prince she was saving it for him when he didn't even know she was leaving. She said she was already jammin to this song before someone that worked for Prince told her, I believe she said in 1985, that it was about her. If she truly believed it why wait until he died to talk about writing a book on it. Smh.

All because it was someone that worked for Prince that said this to her. Well Susan (who worked for prince as well) said TBO to be about Susannah. I still see where sites have this listed. Yet, not only did Prince say it was about the movie and Vanity in that 2014 Ebony magazine interview, he also confirmed it to be about Vanity again during her tribute when he said she knows. Prince said in the Ebony interview that people got stuff wrong... that so much was wrong. I mean really, some stuff is obvious and common sense, I would think. I agree with what someone said about him wanting us to speculate.

I noticed in his later performances of I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore he mentions "the 80s" as if trying to make it clear for people. I got the impression some might have had the wrong idea about that song for him to add "the 80s" after "the good old days" part. Assumingly.

Please forgive me for the lengthy text. I tend to type too much but not on purpose. smile

I remember an Orger saying about I Love You but I Don't Trust You Anymore, "Poor Prince, every time he sings that song he gets so emotional." I feel strongly that it's about Mayte and it was written right at the time they split, too. When I see him perform it on my Montreux 2009 video I can hardly watch. At one point it seems he has to walk away from the microphone and he's shaking his head and saying something to himself...I can't make out what he's saying at all but to me it seems he's in pain and struggling, remembering, and having a hard time continuing, almost (and this is MY interpretation only of what I feel), it's like an "Oh my God, I can't. This hurts too much." It's actually hard for me to watch. He does say in one of his performances of it: "I remember meeting you here back in the good old days" (haunting lyrics now) And then he adds "The 80s" - yes. As you said. You seem to have good insight. Who do you think this song is about?

The song I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore. This song was recorded in 99. He was not with MT at that time. He didn't even divorce MG until 2000 I believe. http://www.vh1.com/news/2...nce-death/ I don't know what he said during his Montreux 2009 performance of this song but I did see his emotions--that he looked like he was hurting. I think something was definitely going on with him that night. Not just with that song.

You never know with P. We can think one thing that in his mind would mean something entirely different. Even on the forum here people were trying to explain that part of the song about the flower and several different opinions. I don't know of any of his proteges he was with in the 80s that he gave a ring to that was a virgin. Seems that flower part is the only throw off.

Jill Jones. Jill and Prince cut each others hair at one point, it was in a 1987/1988 interview.
It was a fun play on words from Prince.

Jill's father, Earl Jones has been taking care of Prince's hair for most of Prince's career.

Don't know about "Do Me Baby".

I know my Prince basics. I'm well aware of the year of release, I bought the vinyl back in the days. The Jill interview was in a french magazine (Rock&Folk) and the article was mainly about the opening of PP, so end of 1987.

Thanks for the clarification about Earl Jones.

Prince had his own hairdresser for the past many many years.
The song has probably nothing to do with his hairdressers though. It's a saying. "She's always in my hair." Yes, it's about JJ.

ILYBIDTrust You Anymore is about Mayte. Written in 2009, the year they split.

Nobody said it was about hairdressers. Bonatoc pointed out that P and J used to cut each others hair... meaning SAIMH is a play on words.

1) She's always in my hair - the well known phrase
2) She was also literally "in his hair" because she cut it.

ILYBIDTrust You Anymore is about Mayte. Written in 2009, the year they split.

1999.

"Pick the flower" = sleep with before ripe, I think, which we know he didn't.

I think the biggest problem with a lot of insiders giving interviews is that they are bias. I mean look at Susan Rogers she was friends with Susannah and soooo bias, every love song was about her.....I don't think so....and she was putting that out there as if the shit was true...I'm like damn!!!! And yes some of his most beautiful love songs..it really is obvious common sense y'all. I mean beside his music, I feel like Vanity was the love of his life. She was just the ultimate inspiration. I'm hoping someone write a book about the two of them. I've been a long time fan of P. If u look at some of the old clips of v6 TV appearance yes u will see Vanity sporting a ring. I would love to hear the story behind that. Most definitely from Prince.....

Prince hadn't his own hairdresser for the past many many years. The song has probably nothing to do with his hairdressers though. It's a saying. "She's always in my hair." Yes, it's about JJ.

1999.

Yes, you're right. I missed that.

I never heard anything whatsoever about Prince giving Vanity a ring.
I do think the "The 80s" remark Prince added into the song later was for us, his fans. I think he was shedding a different light on an old song.
I also believe when he wrote a song for someone, he thought of another woman for it later sometimes, or wrote a song later for more than one woman.

Here you see Susannah wearing hers

Vanity

It's in clear view https://www.youtube.com/w...iCTMAvYwkM

There are photos I saw as well. Prince had even claimed her as wife in front of those reporters at the AMAs the first day he met her.

I do believe it's possible he may have wrriten a song (fantasy or real) and later related the song to a woman he wasn't with when he wrote the song--even if he was already in a relationship with another woman. He already proved he's capable of doing that. Either way, whether Prince intended to marry either of the 2 proteges or not, they both had rings on the same finger. He had them wearing it for a reason, I'm sure. So, yes, Prince gave a ring to both Vanity and Susannah. Even if it's not about Vanity or Susannah, that song has more than one verse that doesn't appear to relate to Mayte at all. It's just an opinion. In the song Adore that some said was about Susannah and some have said to be about Vanity, his words: You made love to me Like you were afraid Was you afraid of me? Was I the first?... One would easily think the woman never slept with anyone before him but we all know that's not the case with Susannah nor Vanity. As far as I'm concerned there could have been a protege in his life in the 80s that the world didn't know about that he gave a ring to. However, I do believe the good old days and him saying the 80s afterwards is exactly what it is. I don't see no other meaning than him meeting the woman in the 80s. The 80s alone knocks Mayte off the list of possibilities--even if he was talking about a virgin (if that's why you think it was about Mayte) because Prince knew he met Mayte in the 90s. Prince was involved with more than one virgin as well. The ring verse knocks Mayte off as well because we already know she was still sporting that ring during the time of the recording of that song. Or maybe the song was nothing but a fantasy. No one really knows. All of it is nothing more than speculation and it's ok to think it's about Vanity, Susannah, Mayte, more than one woman or even a man. Whatever floats your boat. smile

Honestly, I don't think he was ever truly serious about marriage at least until Manuela. I loved their costume jewelry, too--even Prince's cool stuff. I don't know about him proposing to Vanity. Actually, I haven't heard about him proposing to Susannah, either. I only saw this stuff mentioned on websites about both Vanity and Susannah, so I paid attention. Prince didn't confirm being engaged to Susannah nor Vanity to the public, as far as I know. I could be wrong. I read somewhere that was said Vanity wearing the ring was only so the guys wouldn't hit on her. She said Prince was extremely jealous. But honestly, It's of no importance to me if the rings were real or costume because the song doesn't even suggest whether he's talking about something real or not. The ring thing is merely in reference to the song I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore--nothing but the song. The other poster stated that she never heard about him giving the ring. So I shared the link to show that Vanity is wearing (real or costume) jewelry on a wedding finger. No biggie. biggrin

DoveofWisdom

I'm always fascinated by this topic. I watched an early 90's interview with Ingrid Chavez where she discusses the fact that she was the muse for Prince's Lovesexy album. She discussed in some detail a few of the songs, and what specific events inspired those songs. But she definitely implied she was the inspiration behind the whole album, and mentioned nuances in songs that most wouldn't pick up... they were personal to their relationship/friendship.

I think Vanity inspired "Little Red Corvette". I recall watching Kevin Smith's tribute to Prince shortly after Prince passed. He gave more details about their conversations, and he mentioned loving the song "Morning Papers" to Prince and wishing Prince would've performed the song. Prince replied that he couldn't. Mayte wasn't there to dance to it. (This was about a year or two after their divorce.)

Prince dedicated "Little Red Corvette" to Vanity after she passed. He couldn't play "Morning Papers" without Mayte, so I don't think he could dedicate a song to a woman that had been written about another relationship and/or muse.

I too lean toward the idea that Vanity was the muse behind WDC. She was the muse for the "Purple Rain" script. We know that, because she mentioned it in interviews. So, it would make sense that she also served as the muse on the album... especially songs like WDC. Prince has mentioned that she was fiesty and they argued a lot. She was wild and strong-willed, and that's really the context behind the song. And he dedicated "Beautiful One's" to her after she passed which is also from the "Purple Rain" album.

I don't think "Love U, but don't trust U anymore" is about Mayte. The biggest, flashing sign to me is the fact that he didn't "pick the flower". That's a metaphor for taking her virginity. He's saying he didn't have sex with her. And he's saying if he had have, maybe she wouldn't have let curiosity get the better of her and run off to have an affair with someone else. That aside, Mayte was so absolutely devoted to that man. Watching interviews from that time to her behavior now.. it's so easily seen that she was and is crazy about him.

Prince had a habit of collecting young protege's. Anna Fantastic illustrated how he made her wait, and how it drove her nuts. I think he wanted to wait till she was of legal age. I don't think the song is about her, but possibly about a similar situation with another young protege.... a situation where the protege couldn't wait like Anna Fantastic did.

He knew what his women wore, because it's been said that he chose their outfits.... most made for them by his own clothing designers. Most women that knew him have spoke to how Prince noticed the most subtle differences with their hair or nails. It's one thing that attracted them to him. He cared to pay attention. I imagine he'd quickly spot a different dress and perfume.... possibly a gift from the person that woman was having an affair with.

I don't know who "Love u, but don't trust u anymore" is about, but I don't think it's Mayte.

I just wish Prince had been able to finish his book. I wonder how many of these mysteries would be revealed.
