A lot of these songs listed are nothing more than fan assumptions. I assumed quite a few of his songs until I realized he told more than one person about TMBGITW being about them. I even read that some of those love songs was inspired by someone else's relationship. And if (IF) I understood Jill correctly in her interview, not all of the love songs were actually about a particular person but some fake (fantasy, perhaps?). Hmm lol. I would only believe the ones that Prince actually admitted to from his own lips to the world. I agree with the poster that said he probably told more than one woman that a certain song was about her. Just my opinion. He didn't admit to a lot of these songs for a reason. lol. He was quite busy with the women after 1985. It's hard to tell what's for whom when there are so many involved. Too much.

I know that's her on Peach, it are u sure she spoke about Prince since his passing? "Intense" is a well-known term that's been used about them for years but I've never seen where she herself used it. I've heard the story about her needing to be rescued by her family but I've also heard that she simply discovered something she wasn't happy about and went back to LA.

I think Prince was generous and liked to make people feel good so I can see him writing a song for one person then later giving it to someone else, esp of the first person was now in the past. I also believe some of these songs were written for someone he hoped and wished would come along or for a state of mind and love he wanted at the time.

Oh, thanks for the mention of Andy Allo. I was wondering who that was singing on the RnRLA vid. Very pretty woman. Re Basinger & Peach, she was probably the lightest of all his women and the lyrics say "She was dark she was tan" so thinking that wasn't her lol
ITA re impossible to tell, more than one girl etc. Who knows? It's kinda fun to speculate though, and of course it's interesting when he actually SAID (publicly) that this song was about this person.

I always thought it was about women in general and not one specific one. He treated his romances the same way with all his girlfriends and fiances. So alot of experiences would cross over with many of them. (So I can see why some would think this or that song was about them)
Besides, to me anyways, these songs said less about the women in question and more about him and how he idealized romantic relationships and expectations.

I read where people were saying the WDC song was because they (him and Susan) had a fight and she cried. Really? lol. I'm positive not only did Prince argue with more than one woman but he made more than one woman cry. But that doesn't say much anyway. It's the following below that led be to believe this song was about Vanity instead.
From the "original" Purple Rain script. I have original in quotes because I don't know if that script is real or not. I got the info about the script from here. I saved it from the site it was on and read every bit of it. Apparently the script was before Vanity left. So her name's still in it.
I can't say for certain about anything I've read that P didn't confess to but some things seems clearly unlikely than likely. WDC, in particular, appears more unlikely about Susan Moonsie than likely. But I will not argue with anyone's beliefs. If someone believes it's about her. I thought it myself in the beginning only because that's what I was reading on websites.
Prince singing a song about working a lot when it was near there all he ever did? Prince ain't never, ever, ever gave any indication of LRC "slow down" to be about someone working on their job too much. His words at the Montreux (2009) late show said enough without Mi-Ling's explanation. "Taking your clothes off for anybody... I thought you were saving that for me, baby". Mi-Ling (according to her) definitely wasn't wild and giving up herself "for anybody" and she surely didn't tell Prince she was saving it for him when he didn't even know she was leaving. She said she was already jammin to this song before someone that worked for Prince told her, I believe she said in 1985, that it was about her. If she truly believed it why wait until he died to talk about writing a book on it. Smh.
All because it was someone that worked for Prince that said this to her. Well Susan (who worked for prince as well) said TBO to be about Susannah. I still see where sites have this listed. Yet, not only did Prince say it was about the movie and Vanity in that 2014 Ebony magazine interview, he also confirmed it to be about Vanity again during her tribute when he said she knows. Prince said in the Ebony interview that people got stuff wrong... that so much was wrong. I mean really, some stuff is obvious and common sense, I would think. I agree with what someone said about him wanting us to speculate.
I noticed in his later performances of I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore he mentions "the 80s" as if trying to make it clear for people. I got the impression some might have had the wrong idea about that song for him to add "the 80s" after "the good old days" part. Assumingly.
Please forgive me for the lengthy text. I tend to type too much but not on purpose.

I believe there are a lot of his songs that relate to more than one experience in his life and that some experiences might have inspired a song that isn't about a specific person. Take the song Dionne for example. Someone in this topic mentioned Dionne Farris? That her name? That woman said she had met Prince once and it wasn't a let's-get-it-on kind of meeting. But the lyrics in Dionne would suggest more than a one-time professional meeting. He sings about how she should have let him down easy, held his hand, he could have whispered her name, she should have held on to her prize, he should have broke down and kissed her... I think it's her name he was inspired to use in the song but not the woman herself. I know I'm done speculating lol. Only Prince knew what Prince was thinking when he wrote all those songs. Some of these discussions are actually fun to read. The thread about the song Private Joy had me laughing so hard tears were in my eyes. They were trying to explain some of the lyrics and I swear that day was the best laugh I had in a long time. It's interesting speculating. I can't help but to wonder what P thought about some of the crazy, funny stuff people said about him, his music, and his women. lol. I remember an Orger saying about I Love You but I Don't Trust You Anymore, "Poor Prince, every time he sings that song he gets so emotional." I feel strongly that it's about Mayte and it was written right at the time they split, too. When I see him perform it on my Montreux 2009 video I can hardly watch. At one point it seems he has to walk away from the microphone and he's shaking his head and saying something to himself...I can't make out what he's saying at all but to me it seems he's in pain and struggling, remembering, and having a hard time continuing, almost (and this is MY interpretation only of what I feel), it's like an "Oh my God, I can't. This hurts too much." It's actually hard for me to watch. He does say in one of his performances of it: "I remember meeting you here back in the good old days" (haunting lyrics now) And then he adds "The 80s" - yes. As you said. You seem to have good insight. Who do you think this song is about?

I thought for sure someone was gonna swoop in and say 'The Beautiful Ones' was for someone other than Vanity, lol. Everyone got this idea from Susan Rogers and the book Possessed which I'm actually reading at the moment with tremendous patience with some of the dated information. Susan says this without much proof, (at least none were forthcoming in the book.) She divulges her information on many of the songs she states are for some of Prince's women on the basis of pure speculation. I was hoping for a little more substantial evidence but I came to understand that it was just that- speculation. She doesn't know for certain. I have never heard her say Prince told her these songs were for this person or that person, or what led her to believe it was, apart from her own psychoanalysis (If I'm wrong, someone please enlighten me.) I understand now why Prince was so angry at times with some of these associates after reading this book. Who wouldn't be annoyed at someone telling you what you are thinking, lol. She did not have access to Prince's mind. She came to these conclusions by her own thought process and obviously she was certainly wrong about The Beautiful Ones. One of the reasons why I have no doubt that TBO was mostly about Vanity is because Prince actually acknowledged that parts of it was about her, and even went so far as to say, at the very touching tribute, "She knows about this one.' I don't think he would have been misleading on such a meaningful and emotional occasion. I also believe 4ever In My Life was about Susannah Melovin because he said this in an interview without any problem whatsoever, but everything else I take with a grain of salt- and not to mention, most of these songs always have another back story of another reputable associate saying, "no no, it was about this..." A perfect example is, 'Nothing Compares To You... Also the song Wally which is also said to be about SM was based on her analyzations only. I was surprised at that, I'm not saying it wasn't about her, it very well could be, but I thought there would have been more solid evidence that it was, as most people like Quest Love and friends are practically ready to write books (I exaggerate) on the subject of Wally, lol.
