The negative reviews really irks me. I wasn't even there (wish I could've been) but the show shouldn't be criticized and reviewed in a negative way IMO. We're saying goodbye to our beloved icon. Can't fans just say goodbye in peace without every little thing being picked apart within an inch of its life... We just want to honor him with a tribute and say goodbye, geez...

The local media, aside from CJ who has no real talent as a writer and resorted to name calling when prince was the subject, has always been pretty supportive, complimentary and respectful to prince. The tribute got negative reviews from all over the place. Doesn't have anything to do with Prince's relationship to mpls newspapers. Prince hated criticism (who doesnt?) hence he wasnt crazy about critics. They are paid to be unbiased. Doesn't take anything away from how they truly valued him as an artist.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

// Yes, it is mostly the Star. Do you think someone over there had so much beef with Prince that they are carrying on with it now that he is dead. I mean when do you let it go? The review in the Pioneer Press is awful and not the first bad thing I have read in that paper.

I rarely read the local papers so haven't seen the review you're talking about. Was it a Pioneer Press review of the tribute show? I read Jon Bream's review. It wasn't very positive but it wasn't anti-Prince it was basically nobody can put on a show and fill a room like Prince did. He's right about that.

"Prince had many talents, but planning live performances wasn’t one of his strengths."

He played concerts all over the world what the f&$! is even babbling about?

I'm in the minority here and haven't read the entire review so will just speak to this comment specifically.

The part I took in was that "Prince had many talents". He did, didn't he? I mean you can name several....singer, songwriter, amazing live performer, he nurtured new talent (maybe more a characteristic than talent?)....regardless, I read the "planning live performances wasn't one of his strengths" and thought, so what? None of us are good at everything. Are we?

I guess it's all in what you focus on. After all, it's really just one person's opinion.
