Is Phase 2 Grammy Eligible?

If Phase 2 is grammy eligible then it should sweep. There truly was no album that is even close in quality.

Yes, it should b. I believe the cutoff date is November of the prior year, so Prince released HnR2 in December (2015) should qualify.

I hope it gets nominate. To me, it has been very overlooked by the critics as well as the general public. It would be great to right this wrong with a nomination!

Haha no, never happening. I just hope it gets nominated for something. And I'd be ecstatic if Black Muse won something.

It won't even get nominated.

Bowie's Blackstar will win most things. I much prefer Prince's album though
We're here, might as well get into it.

I predict the Grammys will nominate Bowie's and Prince's albums in several categories.

I hope that "Black Muse" is nominated for song of the year or best R&B song.

★ is so perfectly Bowie. Progressive, yet familiar, and equally weird and off beat.

Sia, The 1975, Iggy Pop, Gwen Stefani, Esperanza Spalding, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Bob Mould, Pet Shop Boys, Mayer Hawthorne, Beyonce, Sixx A.M., Cyndi Lauper, Ariana Grande, Fitz and the Tantrums, Garbage, Maxwell, Frank Ocean, De La Soul, Green Day, Loretta Lynn, Sting, A Tribe Called Quest, Bruno Mars, DNCE, Garth Brooks, Rumer, and more have released great and/or notable albums this year. And a vast majority out weight Phase 2.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'd be surprised if Blackstar didn't win an award or two. I've been seeing it on a lot of best-of lists for 2016.

Esperanza Spalding did a great album this year. And if Bowie´s ´Black Star´ would be nominated, it would probably win over Phase 2

Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Noname, Ty Segall, Bowie, Espersanza Spalding... many people had better albums than Prince this year.

Not to say Revelation doesn't own.

I could not disagree more with those of you that say that there are albums anywhere close to Phase 2. I will give you Esperanza Spalding, perhaps, but Phase 2 was a high quality album from Prince and when th greatest artist ever puts out a high quality album then nothing else comes close. I am a David Bowie fan also, but Black Star is no Phase 2. But, I suppose I am extraordinarily biased.

Co-Sign. This was not a good year for music and Prince went out on a high note. He even got good reviews prior to his passing.

I hate to say it but I think Beyonce will sweep everything with "Lemonade." Rolling Stone named it the best album of the year, the Grammys will follow. Makes me sick, but that's the way it is.

- Well, we fans are usually biased smile

I like Phase 2, and I agree with Vernon Reid when he loves it because of the ´return to form´. Prince playing most instruments, that live band vibe. The beautiful horn arrangements and such. But I didnt feel like it was a truly great album, specially considering it would be his last.

.

Didnt listen to Blackstar yet, but Bowie knew he was going to die and gave everything he could there. Hired some jazz musicians, had long songs, deep lyrics.....I would love to hear the same kind of album by Prince.

.

I am not a big fan of Esperanza, but her new album is HOT. She was pushing music FORWARD. It´s daring, the way she mixes rock with pop and jazz in a psychedelic way sometimes. The same ´anger´that Prince had in the 80s. I would be happy if it won an award

.

BUT like somebody said, unfortunately Beyonce will probably be the winner. Lemonade was critically praised and spent quite some time at the top.

Just saw the first predictions of the grammy nominations. Granted it was just MSN, but actually I think mainstream media probably predicts these things as well as more music based media given how mainstream the Grammys are. Unfortunately, no mention of Prince anywhere, whereas posthumous respect for Bowie and Cohen via multiple anticipated nominations. I don't begrudge those artists, but HitnRun2 never even got media exposure, so I don't think it was heard the way those other 2 albums were. Part of prince's legacy was that he became so obscure with his CD releases. The Grammy's do have a tendency to come up with a surprise nomination that catches everyone off guard, so hopefully that will happen with Prince this year.

Since when do "truly great albums" win Grammys? Just ask Hendrix, James Brown, Sly and Marvin Gaye.

If someone can name 3 songs from Lemonade better than Black Muse, Stare and Revelation then I will shut up. Until then, it would be a travesty for Phase 2 not to win. Big City, Look at Me, Extraloveable, Rock & Roll Affair, etc. It really is not close.
