Just listened, good spot. I suppose another link is Tony M - he's on the alt dub version. . And Boom Box has the same beat, and Work That Fat! . I agree it's crazy how we still find new things decades later

Funny, I thought these re-uses of a beat or rhythm were plain as day. The recent early version of "Fantasia Erotica" has similar sounds in it to some of the "Partyman" mixes as well as "Melody Cool".
"Thunder" can be heard to come out of the remixes and alt songs on the "New Power Generation" 12" single mixes.
listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/w...y4Scr_nbbI
and you hear "My Name is Prince"... where did that mix of Melody Cool come from? My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

If you search youtube right now for The original Fantasia Erotica, you'll hear part of it. I saw it floating around on facebook, and Anna was even surprised by it. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

WRT Prince reusing elements form older songs: I recall a letter in Uptown which wondered about "319", because that song's sounds are apparently very close to Prince's "Batman era" sounds, yet there's no evidence "319" dates back to that time. © Bart Van Hemelen

I think Princevault states that Work That Fat IS the same music as Martikas Kitchen.
There's loads of cases of this - some obvious, some sutble. Feel you up loop in a track from Newpower Soul springs to mind.

i don't think he was inspired by himself as much as when he developed a groove or percussion sound he uses it as the foundation for 3-4 different song ideas. He was basically using the same soil to grow different flowers. I think that it can also be used to track what songs actually were recorded around the same time.
For example, Good Love = The Future. Listen to the percussion on the beat and the rhythm noise. from the same initial tinkering session on that beat. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

That's kind of what I meant: I will often remember an element from a piece I've written and use it in another later, in a more or less reworked form. Prince didn't just do that with beats and grooves: engineers have reported that he would constantly reuse random elements from past unreleased songs into new cuts, and we have multiple examples of that. Just see how that recent outtake (the Bonnie Rait one, can't remember the title now) has the hor part that was reused in the totally unrelated live arrangement of Kiss. And it's happened so many times from the arabic riff in Rave/The Max to the orchestra in CB/TF and so on... oh yeah, his revival of instrument parts and vocal sampling was also really interesting. Like how "Acknowledge Me" contains stuff from "The Line" and "All My Dreams"... and it's a completely different kind of song then those two. Makes you wonder how he had easy access to those elements, considering the amount of recorded material he collected in the studio. People who have worked with him have said there's entire albums worth that have not surfaced in bootleg or information sites on Prince. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
