Is this a real Cloud guitar?

Is this blue Cloud guitar a "real" one? Or is it one of the replicas? Sam Jennings thinks its a replica.

Evidently, it is part of the PP Tour VIP "photo op."

It's real in that it's an authorized Schecter replica, but it's not something he would have actually played.

No,It's a replica, they could've at least used an era appropriate
Version with the symbol fret markers. The OG white,Peach,& Lovesexy
Blue all had dots. I think the peach and the Blue Angel were the same
Guitar just sprayed different. By the time they were yellow & Blue
They had symbol markers...except for the Schecters. I'd have to see
It closer to pick out all the differences.

Prince had a lot of those cloud guitars. They weren't repainted. They were only a few thousand to make, and the guitar maker noted that he'd made a lot for Prince. White, blue, yellow, peach, black (loved that metallic finish on it), orange (unused for the Super Bowl), etc. Hell we know he had at least two of those Hohner type guitars, and what ...at least 4 symbol guitars (white, black, gold, purple (habibi) in tow).

As far as this one, who knows. But it's still in his collection. I would hope some of his other guitars are on display throughout.

For me, I wanna see the cloud bass that he bought for Andre in 1979 (as seen in "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad", and the original "I Wanna Be Your Lover" video with the band), and Sonny used on occasion (notably in the "My Name Is Prince" video). Also, the acoustic guitar he had for "Forever In My Life" on SOTT, and "Glam Slam" videos.

Just as a side note about items: I really want to see the jean jacket from "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night". I made my own jacket like that in 1988. It was dark blue, with gold safety pins lined up like that (it was a LOT of work), plus other pins etc on the front and collar. I freakin' loved that jacket. I'd love to see Prince's.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Nice Picture, must've been so emotional.

Yeah that looks like the Schecter replica I purchased from Paisley Park back around 2000-2001. Same color and from what I can tell markings. I remember on the BET Tribute when Sheila brought out the same piece color and all and she lifted it over her head....I totally lost it sad

I also have a cobalt blue/purple baby grand piano to match that guitar. I'll see it up close & in person next Friday and report back.

Yeah thats not his cloud. I dont know where they are at, if he gave them away or if they are somewhere else on the tour but the two I've seen, the white one in the PR room and this one are both replicas. You can tell by the stem on the head stock and the fret markers on this one.

Thanks for the replies!

I would like to think they would put out a "real" one. But on the other hand, if this set up is going to be the photo op for all the VIP guests, I can't blame them for not putting anything of great value out there.

I almost bought this guitar from the NPG Music Club for $1000 in 2002. I instead started looking for the Hohner telecaster.

Is the Hohner telecaster on display at PP? That's the one I want to see.

The more I see of this tour, the more it annoys me..

If that is in fact a Schechter replica, here is a guitar that Prince probably never even touched in his life and thats what you get to take a photo with? And pay for the privilege ?!

Pathetic
Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Yes the Hohner is on display in the atrium. Looks to be the real deal with wear marks and correct pick guard material.

An easy way to tell if its a replica is by the stripe that goes down the middle of the body. The replicas that sell online and like the one placed on stage during the recent Revolution shows has a thick, inch wide stripe whereas the original has a thin stripe down the middle.

That jacket was given to Tempest Bledsoe.

They're not going to put Prince's real guitars out there in the open when a $1,000 replica will do the same job. The majority of visitors will not know the difference. Even if "theft" wasn't a concern, there should be a reasonable concern about damage from handling.

Respectfully, I am hopeful that the estate will sell these replicas again - either in the gift shop or online. I opted out of buying one about 15 years ago -- never really regretted it but would've loved to have one. If they had "true white" or peach versions, I would've gotten one. Just wasn't crazy about the blue and pearlized white they sold back then.

It is the thickness of the gap between the D and G string 😁 on the original

Am I right in thinking the strip on the original runs through the neck too, whereas it doesnt on the replicas??? Not seen one in a while but I recall a difference on the neck (not the Headstock shapes)
Life is short, don't be a dick.

R.I.P Prince - Thank you for your Music, Your Talent and for helping me find out who I was and am.
