For Purple Rain's 20th anniversary....

How far do you think Warner will go to promote it? Ya know, like airtime or special offers, crap like that. Right now the 80's is being pushed back up, so how much attention you think PR will get?

I'd love to go see Purple Rain on the big screen. I remember in about 1993 when I was at university a local indie cinema was showing SOTT and I didn't get my arse to go and see it! Bad move.

As much as it sounds doubtful, it may not be.

There's word umunst the music industry that because of various factors, including file sharing and CD burning, Music companies are doing staff lay offs, and alot of traditional music stores are now slowly increasing their DVD range over their CD titles.

I read a quote in the paper by a music company employee that DVD's, especially Music DVD sales are "saving their ass", so if there is money to be made off it, Purple Rain special edition may be a winner for them

I'm sure WB would love to do something for Purple Rain's
20th anniversary, but their hands are tied without Prince's
approval.

A 20th anniversary CD or DVD or both set of "Purple Rain" PROBABLY won't happen...

A 25th anniversary CD or DVD or both set of "Purple Rain" PROBABLY won't happen...

A 30th anniversary CD or DVD or both set of "Purple Rain" PROBABLY won't happen...

A 35th anniversary CD or DVD or both set of "Purple Rain" PROBABLY will happen, since Prince will get his masters back for the "Purple Rain" album...

But then again you'll never know, maybe he'll cave in and strike some deal with WB... I just don't see it happening, ego and all...
It would have been smarter to do a 15th anniversary set 4 years ago when that whole 80's revival thing kicked in...

I agree. I bet they/he wont do a damn thing to PR. And thats ok. But like Neversin said, if at all, more probable at the 35 year mark...and by then...

I think WB are far more likely to want to do something
for Purple Rain's anniversary than Prince. He doesn't
believe in time and birthdays etc remember.

I've heard many, sometimes conflicting, rumors about what
Prince is up to this year. As always with Prince, even if
I'd heard something from him personally, it wouldn't mean
that it would definitely happen.

But at the moment I'm inclined to believe the following...

1. There is no Celebration this year

2. There will be a new album released this year (probably in june/july)

3. He has been talking to WB about Purple Rain next year
