Does anyone NOT want to hear the unrelased music?

I know, sounds a little ridiculous. But when they talk about releasing some of his unheard music, I just have no desire to hear it. I know it's his. He recorded it. But as hard as he worked on music, I would hate to have something released, that he wasn't "done" with or wouldn't have been happy with. But then again, I'm also a person who doesn't like anyone else singing his songs. I can't enjoy it when some other artists is singing purple rain, lets go crazy, etc etc. I always feel they aren't sung right. Whoever is singing it always has their own spin on it. Slows it down. Speeds it up. UGH! Drives me nuts.

Then don't listen to it.

Even worse, His sister just said they are going to remix it, and get it out there. Im hoping she just means remastering it.

Yeah, no. I want to hear everything I can get my grubby little ears on.

yea...that's what worries me. And I won't like freak out and turn the radio off if something comes on...but I won't go out of my way to listen either. I hope they at least keep it as-is. Don't change it a lot anyway

smile I'm guessing that's pretty much how everyone feels! From the sounds of what's in that vault, there could be quite a bit you'll be able to listen to!! thumbs up!

I just hope they only release his best work from the vault. I would think releasing his live work would be much more beneficial to his legacy..

We know he wanted to release the Atlanta show so let's get it on with it.

I'm feeling melancholy about it in general. BUT, the minute I hear something's available, I know I'll practically run over anybody to get to it.

my opinion on the Atlanta show was it wasnt all that compare to any live shows which featured him playin guitar it was just fair but seeing it was his last show it has utmost importance but the performance was subdued and not great in my opinion

No matter what they do people, are going to say it's not what P would have wanted and they don't like it. The only thing people want is the impossible: having him still alive.

I want it all. Every song, every remix, every version, ever....

Hell, if there is an unreleased album of Prince burps and farts, I want that too.

I would like to hear it, but as is. No further embellishments or others inputs. Straight from the Vault shelves to my ears.

Exactly. It's like bitching about a TV show. Don't watch it, but don't piss on other people's parades.

Both of you....True!!!! Hmmm.... Kinda like..."if you don't like my post. Don't read it. Don't piss on other peoples parade."

It was a thought I had. Wondered if anyone else thought the same. Find ANYWHERE in my post where I bash anyone who DOES want to listen to new music!!! That's right. You can't find it because I didn't do it. In fact someone who said they're excited about it, I was nice back to them and said they should have a lot to listen to based on how much music was in the vault. Being nice. You should try it!!

Again... you don't like what I have to say. Not a problem. The only one pissing on anyones parade is you. Go find another thread to be hostile on. wave

Like you, I am hesitant. He was a perfectionist and he wanted us to hear his music when he was finally DONE with it and moving on. Personally, I would like to hear only that which is marked FINISHED with his stamp and according to some interviews, there is such music within the vault that is finished. Personally, I would like a complete collection of official videos he made (b/c it's like a video timeline) and official release Piano and Microphone Tour - only if they are done. If the estate wants to release the whole lot, then I am happy for the fans that get it. But I feel the same way about his 'biography' that he started as well. Sometimes I think that is why he didn't leave a will because he knew he wouldn't be here to control any of this and/or he knew he wouldn't be here so he doesn't really care about it all. I don't know. Just my opinion.

I am also like you that I really can't stand to hear others sing his music. Yes, some of them are really good and I think Prince would approve some of their versions, but the original is best! biggrin No one does it like Prince. I am in no hurry to buy music out of the vault. I really want whoever is in charge to take their time and do it right.

I don't think Prince would mind. He said often that "someone else" would deal with his music after he was gone, and he clearly didn't care enough about it to leave a will specifying what he wanted. He knew it would be released after his passing, and he seemed okay with that. And just because it wasn't released doesn't mean he considered it unfit to ever be released or heard; it just didn't work with whatever project he was working on at the time. I think he'd be cool with us finally getting an official release of "Moonbeam Levels".

I agree. If its released as-is...and HE himself had somehow marked it as DONE...then yea, that would be awesome! Hope there's some in the vault like that. And they don't just grab some here and there, re-do parts of it and call it his. I think he would have hated that!?

To me, it just doesn't sound right when other artists sing his music. Sounds....off. If thats a good word to describe it. I know they're trying their best, but like you said....the original is best! (and hard to not compare when others are singing!) My playlist on my ipod in my car, since April has always been set to Prince. Even my 12 year old loves it!! smile

I don't have a ton of Prince fan friends, but every single one of them wants to hear the unreleased stuff. Which translates into me gathering it for them. I understand people may think some stuff was not released because it wasn't strong material. But, as a big music nut who has tracked down unreleased music of my absolute favorite artists, NONE even come close to Prince, in terms of quality unreleased work. "Possessed", "Lust U Always", "G-Spot", and so on, a LOT of that stuff is top notch. Side note, wouldve loved to hear Robert Palmer do "Lust U Always". Minus the rape-y lyrics here and there, some of this stuff is just fantastic. "Possessed" is one of my top 15-20 Prince songs. I hope that when his sister said stuff will be released, but "remixed", she just meant mixed and mastered as best possible.

Graceland runs the museum and the personal artifacts, the tours, etc. The estate and its assets like music are handled by Londell or whoever is in charge of that part of it. Tyka sure seems to have a firm grip on things with the music, so I'm hopeful for that.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
