That's been on my mind for a while, the depression. In fact, I'm looking even before 2014 (or whatever happened during that time). When I heard P's acceptance speech at the 2010 BET awards, it sounded like a man with regrets but hope for the future generations. He already sounded like he was willing to 'step away' then. See minute 18 at this location: http://hiphop-n-more.com/...et-awards/ There was something already seeded in his mind that he was pretty much 'done.' I hate that he felt that way, but I have no idea how we as meer fans could have made him understand God can continue to use us in ways that exceed our expectation OR soothe whatever hurt he could not let heal. Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

Like you, bigtimefan, I too suspect Prince was probably pretty bummed because he knew he'd lost his muse. Sooner or later, the well runs dry for all great songwriters and musical geniuses. It happens to the best of 'em. I think that is what the sister was referring to by the "I've done all I've come here to do", quote.
Dude knew he'd written his last Number 1 Pop Hit years ago. He knew he didn't have IT in him anymore. That's gotta be a bummer to a guy like Prince. I'm not convinced that he was suicidally depressed though. But I do think he was bummed enough to make the wreckless choice to use blackmarket pain pills and not care too much about the inherent risks. “Sometimes People Don't Want To Hear The Truth Because They Don't Want Their Illusions Destroyed” — Friedrich Nietzsche

i wouldn't doubt he was depressed, but no, i don't think enough to where he'd try to kill himself. I could see pain making most people want to die but not Prince, I just can't say enough, maybe i'm giving him too much credit but I think he was a superman, I just believe he could take on a lot of pain just like he took on the many obstacles he'd already taken on. When i say the pieces don't fit, they don't fit for me. so, i don't discount any and all theories of his death.

Depression sucks. Panic attacks, anxiety just makes it worse. I have a dear friend that has Major Depressive Disorder. It is pretty tuff. I would hate for anyone to have to deal with depression. P had everything he could ever want except the simple things in life that we take for granted or cuss because we wish we had more or better. For me, every time I looked at P's eyes whether in a picture, interview, music video, I saw deep sadness. There was something that he didn't have that he truly desired deeply. He was always "on" and I wonder if there ever was a time that he was "off". Can you imagine living that way for 30 years and never feeling safe enough to unmask?? Everyday, every day, every day??? I may be completely wrong but my heart went out to him. He could have very well battled depression.

Yeah, I don't think he was suicidal at all. . I think some people come to a point in life where the "drive" is gone, and don't have enthusiam for the future; or for their life for that matter. Perhaps they don't seek medical or preventative treatment or take precautions that some may. . I just hope he didn't feel despair. Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

it's been said that he'd been depressed over professional stangnancy and maybe he was, but he was still very vital, 4 albums in two years illustrates that and some of those songs I think stood up well to anything he's ever done. Some people think elvis was majorly depressed in his last years too, he was definitely troubled, drugs do not help with emotional issues. Sometimes i think that those guys just get bored, i mean what's left to do when you've already done so much? sexxed the finest women, accomplished things unheard of? At any rate, I don't think it was depression that did prince in. I still think there is so much info being withheld that we aren't given the real reasons. I have faith that more will come out though. Too many people, too many people who also may have axes to grind and won't keep any secrets forever. So far we're getting so many strange statements, appolonia's statement I thought may have been the wierdest and most cryptic of all, the one where he sounded like a traitor was in his midst. I wonder if she was insinuating murder.

I know some people complained about Mayte and her upcoming book one of the reasons why I want to read it is to see if it true about what happened on April 21, 1996 when I read another Prince book (was it Alex Hahn's Possessed) it stated that Prince was found unconscious and he was saved by Mayte after he consumed pills and alcohol, and he went to the hospital. It sounded like a suicide attempt to me and I read the doctor even asked Mayte did Prince tried to hurt himself.

Yeah I agree. It is too deep to discuss even in the org but I believe had Prince lived his truth the outcome would be different.
Yeah depression is a bitch. It doesnt matter if you are a superstar and wealthy those things can still make you feel empty inside. You can feel good one minute and the next minute you feel like you are worthless and wonder what is the purpose of living? And also taking medications and suppliments do help but still it always going to be with you no matter what and its genetic too. I heard stories of people who appeared have it all still feeling so low.
So far in my life time Prince is one of the few people in the world who mirror me. I am not talking about lookwise its personality, his noncomforting and ambiguity with his gender, struggle to fit in segregrated USA (the likes of me and Prince we were told you are too weird for black people and too black for white people), being bullied, having issues with immediate family, trust issues, anxiety (yeah the meds that the Star Tribute pretty confirmed he had anxiety issues), shyness publicly but outgoing and funny in private, reclusive, liking different type of music, feel like people doesnt understand him, want to bring people together and always have diversity around with people and stuff, compartizing and present different personas to different people, and more to name. Yeah Prince did made out of poverty that is a good thing but depression doesn't care it follows you everywhere you go. [Edited 10/9/16 21:17pm]

Well, I did say right after his death I thought he had depression and mental issues and got shot down in flames smh. Now, recent events seem to be pointing more in that direction. I don't believe he was suicidal though, simply because of where he was found, no suicide note, the fact he had future plans etc. but anything is possible. There's always a rainbow 🌈 , at the end of every rain ☔️

. I don't doubt that Prince never felt sadness. He just wouldn't admit to that. He said he did not live in the past. I think he had a lot going for him, so I don't believe he was ever "bored" in his life! . He was always collaborating with other artists. I could even see him running a "Prince Institute for music and performing Arts", if you will. He was immensley talented, and I think he had a lot more to give the world. . He definitely had a lot of loss in his life (lost a child, marriage breakup, loss of parents), all in a very short amount of time. He even said himself that his music was his "therapy" and helped him get through a lot. . I keep thinking about what Appolonia said too.....wish I knew "who" she was referring to. .

Normally, I try to stay away from a lot of speculative topics regarding his state of mind and his passing, but I have to get some of this off my mind as well. Some people just KNOW when their work on earth is done. There have been relatives of mine who have uttered the words "I'm ready to go home" on a few occasions, leaving me to truly understand the meaning behind those words after they've passed on. I think Prince's bonding and mentorship of younger, spiritually-based musicians was also a major part of that "work". He started reaching out more and more to old friends and associates. He relinquished his "producer" hat for the very first time, he grew out his Afro again, and in my opinion, purposely abandoned the whole "Purple Rain" anniversary deal, figuring that we all would have ample time to dwell on that major success in the coming years. I'm just now coming to understand completely what he meant when he said that he doesn't look at that moment the same as everybody else. He was there. He wrote all of those songs. He saw it all before it happened. Now, he can be truly be a fly on the wall, and bask in all of the nostalgia that his music conjures up time and again in the minds of his fans. In a way, his musical journey ended the way it started. An Afro-clad Prince, alone in front of his piano.

. Prince himself said he did not live in the past. He always looked towards the future. Music was his life and he wanted to keep sharing it with the world. He was always evolving, physically, spirituall and musically. I just don't think he was ready to leave this earth. He had too much going on at the time of his death. . But then again, none of us know what he was thinking or feeling, even those who were "closest" to him.

. Roxy: I'm sure Prince had regrets, like we all do. He said he did things early in his career that he wasn't proud of. He matured and grew to be a wonderful human being. He changed for the better and became more spiritual and started living a more meaningful life. I never took what he said as "being done" with life. Being that he was so active, right up until his untimely death says otherwise. But then again, maybe he was just trying to live life to it's fullest to the very end. We just don't know.

He was only human. As much as he repeated that very line in interview after interview, he wrote and released some very reflective songs long after that album (including "Reflection" lol). That "not living in the past" was probably moreso a way of dismissing the same dry questions he was bombarded with all the time. The security of his vault was so important to him, because he would borrow from past (unheard) ideas to form newer compositions. Now that he's gone, there will be no more "new" music. You're right, it's all our opinions in the end, but while I think he probably wasn't ready, he could've been almost content with what he was able to accomplish during his time and he could feel it drawing near. His parents, JB, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Kim Upsher, and Denise Matthews. He had to have been thinking about what he'd done, what was next, and what he would be leaving behind at some point.
