After over 5 months

I have put a CD in my car stereo that is not Prince. eek I knew this day would come, eventually. neutral Anybody else who's listened to P non-stop since his passing recently change up their tunes?

I'm not a human

I'm your conscious
I am love
All I really need is to know that

At almost exactly 5 months I had to take a break from listening to Prince at all because it was bringing me down badly, it lasted a week until virtual movie night, then I was fine again. It went from couldn't listen to anything but Prince, to dabblings of listening to others, then completely no Prince, now a mixture.

Looks like you're doing alright. I also wanted to hear nothing but Prince at first. I don't really remember how long that phase lasted. Somebody said to me, "I could never do that, listen to one artist only" and I said, "Neither could I, but it's different now." But that phase is over.

Get the new Esperanza Spalding CD. I swear he must be playing guitar on it and I'm sure he would approve of her CD.

It's the first time in my life I can't listen to anything but one artist: Prince. I've surprised myself at all of my feelings.

I've said this before, but I'm also going through a very stressful personal time and I think that has something to do with it. I'm feeling my own mortality and fear, probably of passing away myself...all my regrets and the things I have not accomplished...things Prince did! Like giving more and being himself and being fee spiritually. I know he's okay. I want that too in this lifetime so I can go back to God pure.

Anyway, back to the music: when I listen to anything else, especially from way back when Prince was a kid, and especially funk or love songs, I feel awfully down.

For people my age (approx Prince's age), his life just went way too fast. It seems like yesterday it was the 80s and 90s and he was that young man...it just didn't seem that long ago!

Of course I know it was in a way, I've had a whole life just like he did, but going back in time is really depressing and I just can't listen to other music yet very comfortably.

This grief thing has changed for me. It's gone through all kinds of stages. But the one thing that remains consistent is my respect for this person.

I'm doing, the alright part is fluid. All I know is in the beginning I needed to feel his presence around me all the time, I still crave his presence and always will but there's something else taking place now, a realization I guess, that sometimes I want to avoid from time to time, when it becomes overwhelming I get a little distance until I can ease back into it.

For about the first 4 months I was listening to P morning, noon and night and then one day I started to listen to other music again. Although I like other artists, really and truly no one can do it like P so I inevitably end up listening to him again. Anyway, I've noticed as time goes by my time spent on listening to others is slowly increasing but I've sworn to never go a day without listening to P.

Yeah I feel like that, I've kinda kept in a bubble, so it's sorta easy 2 not really truly take in he's left the physical realm.

Oh yeah. I always feel like he's still with us when listening to his music. Just like when listening to James Brown or Marvin Gaye. Those people aren't "dead" to me. Their bodies may have gone, but their souls are still here.

Yeah, it's like something's askew. Like I've got my shoes on the wrong feet or something. I saw the words "End of an era" yesterday & that hit me hard.

For about 5 months things related to Prince brought tears and were avioded some. Finally I can now listen to his music with joy, excitement and jam right along with it. Prince lives on in his music

Prince wrote

"Is Jimi Hendrix alive 2day?

He most definitely is. In fact, he's more alive than ever - more alive than he uses 2 b.

He's an artist who's selling millions of CD's every year...... Tens of thousands of people world-wide are listening to his music every day. Tens of thousand of people are feeling this ENERGY jumping out of his recordings.

It is becoming quite clear 2 more and more people that, in fact, Jimi Hendrix will live 4ever, bcuz his work will be with us 4ever. An artist is his work. People r what they create. They live thru their works of art - and the fact those works r TIMELESS means they live 4ever.

Is Miles Davis alive 2day? He is. He is still present with us. The influence of his work is spreading wider and wider. ...."

Listening to any 1 artist, other than Prince, would be impossible for me. But it's too easy with him. There is just SO MUCH MUSIC. I realized I have a Prince playlist I labeled as "favorites" that is something like 72 hours long eek

I am deep in my grieving. Like others said, I am close to his age, just a few years younger.

I remember getting up off our big green scratchy couch to stand right in front of our box TV, witnessing him on Midnight Special, seeing him for the first time.

I remember sitting in my home office, getting a notification from TMZ that 'a death' had occured at Paisley Park. (I realized long ago setting notifications for "Prince" got a lot shit I had no interest in lol) I scanned the article looking for anything like, "and Prince was in Los Angeles at the time" but there wasn't anything.... 12 minutes later, it was confirmed.

Those are 2 steal-your-breath bookends; the level of emotion at both occurences is something that will be with me forever.

I've said it several times since he passed, I thought Prince would be electrifying me w/ his next chapter until *I* tokyo-drifted into the grave. If I didn't love a particular thang.... I just held on, because I knew the next one would blow my mind. For 36+ years.

Prince was my thrill ride. I still had my arms up, screaming. I was not ready to exit the ride. Way too soon for me; I hope right on time for him.

I'm a heathen, so I have no real thoughts about where he is right now, but I hope he is being richly rewarded for the number of souls he lit.

I will never not be sad over his passing, especially given the circumstances. I miss sharing the planet with him every day, always will.

So I tear up when I talk about Prince, oh well.

The grief is real, and I don't mind feeling it. Reminds me of what an astounding impact this artist had on my pysche. A friend said to me last weekend, "I don't have an artist that touched me so deeply". I felt lucky when he said that, I barely remember a time when I DIDN'T have that touch.

So I still listen pretty much all day & night. Bonus: Ppl around me are like, "THAT's Prince?? I never knew he did anything like that". Yeah man, that's Prince. Come sit next to me and let me learn ya some more.

I wanna do it baby all the time, all right? I think about it all the time. Feels so good it must be a crime.

waiting on my baby
