Peittion to Temporarily Open Paisley Oct 6-16

I'm not sure that we are going to convince the Chanhassen Council or their constituents to permanently approve the opening for Paisley Park before they are more comfortable with the plan. With that said, I think the compromise is to get them to open it this week and I think there is good justification for them to do this, which includes public safety. I sent the following email to the entire Council, including the Mayor. I urge the rest of you to do the same:

Dear Chanhassen City Council:

The compromise solution is to temporarily open Paisley Park for the week of the tribute so that fans from around the world can pay their respects and visit Paisley Park. It can then be closed until all questions are answered and there is a more permanent plan that satisfies all of your constituents. I think that it is incorrect to suggest that the Council only has one shot at this because there is a short-term and a long-term solution that can be enacted separately.

If safety and traffic are the primary concerns, then safety and traffic are going to be an even bigger issue when thousands of fans from around the world come to Paisley Park next week whether it is open or not. With that in mind, I urge you to hold an emergency session today to vote on this temporary solution.

Thanks for your consideration.

BTW, I got a short note from the mayor indicating that he read my message.

I like the idea of a short-term opening of PP; my own tickets are for after Oct. 16, so limiting it to that timeframe wouldn't really help me personally. But I agree this is a better solution that nothing and would allow the influx during tribute weekend to tour PP.

I would prefer they find a way to honor ALL tickets already sold, and stop any additional sales until a final solution is reached.

I agree with you. I would like for them to honor all tickets sold as well. With that said, I think that some type of temporary measure it the best that we can hope for and I hope that temporary measure includes your travel plans.

I have to agree with this - it only makes sense to allow it to be temporarily opened to ensure that PP doesn't have such a huge loss right off the bat. I bet the staff at PP are busy right now - and really stressed out!

I got this response:

Hi

I appreciate your concerns and suggestion.

I want to make sure a complete plan is in place to ensure our residents are fully considered/protected before we open the flood gates. The management company should not have sold tickets before the city council had a chance to review their request.

We will see what we can do to remedy this situation while we complete the plan with the applicant. Stay tuned to our city website for updates: http://www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us/

Thanks,
Dan
