I love the description of Purple Rain, but having Sergeant Peppers at 18 below Shania Twain slightly discredits the list.

Are you all pulling my leg or was I unclear? They ranked Shania higher than the Beatles' Sergeant Peppers at 18 and I was thinking WTF? Sergeant Pepper's lonely hearts club band needed to be in the top ten at least--its a visionary classic..

When I originally saw the list - before I posted it here - I thought Sgt. Pepper would be number one, as it is on nearly every list known to man. I think the description of "Purple Rain" is accurate, but I wonder what it would have been on the list if Prince was still alive.

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours at 22? Along with Purple Rain it's one of the few albums on that list that doesn't have a bad song on it IMO. :disbelief: At least Thriller isn't #1. I do think Appetite for Destruction should be higher though. This reminds me a bit of those greatest guitarist lists from Rolling Stone. The first one they did was a top 50 list and P didn't event make the list. Then they did another list for anyone that didn't make the first list. Then they did a third list which was top 100. P made that list, but was in the 30s behind Joey Ramone. Spin magazine tried to rectify this; their list had Prince at #6. But their list left out people like Hendrix and Clapton so how credible of a list was it really. Paisley Park is in your heart

Regardless of the ranking itself... there are some really shitty albums in that list! [Edited 10/3/16 11:02am]

I love the Beatles but I think Sgt. Pepper is overrated. It was a quantum leap forward in terms of what a recording studio was thought to be capable of and it is certainly the strongest historical document of its time, but the lyrics to She's Leaving Home are really ridiculous. Naturally it's a got a ton of great material, but it's got some stinkers, too. It definitely deserves to beat Shania's ass, though. Sgt Peppers is a record I respect greatly but just never listen to.

The best they can come up with to describe "Thriller" is what Chris Rock had to say about it? Who gives a fuck what Chris Rock has to say about anything?

I love it when Prince's music is lovingly described as "weird."
