Has it occured to you? (re. online content)

The lack of free online streaming Prince material (e.g., YouTube) ended almost immediately upon Prince's death?

It had me suspecting they were withholding/blocking it not only via a legal threat, but almost as a professional courtesy that was personal for Prince.

If any of us died, our legal arrangements would still be in place until our estate was sorted out.

A lot of it was definitely withheld for respect to Prince.

I noticed this, although it seemed to take a little while for it to take off. (Or maybe I just didn't check for a while because I didn't expect much?)

A lot of this may also have been a natural outpouing of grief. Think of how many of those clips are posted in memory of Prince, or how much time some people are putting into lyric videos. Unlike almost anyone other performer I can think of, when Prince died there was nowhere to go but news articles and your personal collection. It seemed natural to me that fans would want to share their love and experiences, and once it was obvious that no one was minding the store the floodgates opened.

I suspect that Prince had people working for him who personally disagreed with his stance on YouTube, etc., as well. They might have been disinclined to pursue it too (and they were certainly grieving as well). But that's all just conjecture.

I'm curious whether this is just a grace period, or if it will be the new world order. I have mixed feelings either way.

Do you think that maybe he was personally requesting a lot of stuff to be withheld himself? I mean I know he was very active online, so when he passed that/those obligations to restrict stuff ended because he wasn't requesting it to be hidden. I reckon he spent a lot of time online doing his research into what was out there himself.

FUNKNROLL

I'm surprised how much is currently on YouTube after hearing repeatedly the enforcement was back on/happening again.

I hope they never take it down. I just love to watch the videos and concerts! Somehow it makes me feel better. I'll buy whatever the estate puts out for purchase. But YouTube could also make new fans if it's left out there!
