How do you look back on your days with Prince?

"From the perspective of Warner Bros., the Black Album was emblematic of the label's concerns about Prince's career. Increasingly, his marketing decisions seemed designed to alienate the public rather than to increase his record sales; meanwhile, his material was becoming consistently less accessible. The company desperately wanted Prince to come up with catchy songs that would re-establish him as a potent hit-maker and guide him back towards Purple Rain-like levels of fame. What it got instead was The Black Album." That's a lot of bullshit there. Or maybe the word is uneducated opinion. Anyway, the Black Album is one WB fought for to get a release on. And the Ingrid Chavez album is one of the only forward thinking albums released on Paisley Park that is. It an actual Prince Album. Both the Ingrid album and the black album hold up incredibly well today. Sonically Ingrids holds up better.

Ingrid needs to release a deluxe edition of her debut album that includes the unreleased tracks. It would be an extra special bonus if it included her original version of "Justify My Love".

Candle Dance is the third track on Ingrid Chavez's first album May 19 1992. It was written by Ingrid Chavez and Michael Koppelman and produced by Michael Koppelman, but Prince plays guitar and keyboard on the track (uncredited). Although specific recording dates are unknown, Ingrid Chavez's vocal track was recorded with an improvised organ backing by Prince in mid-December 1987, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (shortly after cancelling the release of "The Black Album", during the same set of sessions as Heaven Must Be Near, Crystal City Cry, Wintersong, Whispering Dandelions, Slappy Dappy, Elephant Box, Touch Of Love, Blue Boy, Jadestone, Sad Puppet Dance, Standing In The Rain and Cross The Line). Michael Koppelman was asked by Prince to provide a new musical backing for the track in March 1991, at Larrabee Sound, Los Angeles, CA, USA, after he had been impressed by Koppelman's backing for Wintersong, recorded while Prince left the studio for a few hours. It is likely that Prince recorded his keyboard and guitar parts on the same day, although this is unconfirmed. -PrinceVault

View from Graffiti Bridge
By Karla Peterson
The San Diego Union-Tribune, April 15, 1990
Bo Jackson may know baseball (and football and marketing), but Prince knows women. And he knows that a successful movie has to have at least one beautiful woman to keep things interesting. "Grafitti Bridge" has three.
"I'm the girl,' " says Jill Jones, tugging at the sexy black minidress that proves "girl" might be a bit of an understatement.
"I'm Aura. She's sort of a spiritual being who has a mission," Ingrid Chavez says in a soft, out-of-body whisper.
"I'm still in costume," Robin Power says, glancing at the smoking jacket that serves as an abbreviated dress. "Sorry about that."
One after another, they tap, tap across the dazzling white tile floor for their interviews. Jones has known Prince for years, and she records for his Paisley Park record label. She plays the Kid's girlfriend, an ambitious singer named Jill. She wants to perform, but the Kid is not encouraging. She has jet-black hair and deep green eyes. Eventually, the Kid comes around.
Ingrid Chavez met Prince when they locked eyes in a crowded Minneapolis club. "We had an instant attraction, but it was not necessarily a physical one," she says, shifting uncomfortably against the slippery leather couch. "We feel we were brought together for a purpose, that this all happened for a reason." In the movie, Chavez plays the Kid's spiritual guide. In real life, she writes poetry and takes care of her 5-year-old son. She is 25 and as delicate as a porcelain doll. Prince is producing her debut album.
