While reading a thread regarding Greg Proops talking about Prince's music (the dude's a fan), they talked about this trip to Electric Fetus days before he died. I'd not heard of a couple of these acts, but the majority I have. Here are the CDs he bought.

I was really surprised by the 'Best Of Missing Persons' album. They started a good rise in '82-'83 (Words, Destination Unknown, Mental Hopscotch) but then imploded.

Terry Bozzio is an incredible drummer.

Thank u, found it. I'm not totally amazing at working out iTunes from podcasts or all the other ways of hearing things! He's good is Greg int he. .

Greg kind of rambled on through some facts, but that's bound to happen. The fact that he was spewing so much information so quickly, and was passionate about it showed me just how much of a fan he was; opposed to people who say "oh I loved Prince", yet can't name shit past what is probably on Prince4Ever. Greg's a funny guy, and smart. He now has some purple points.

I definitely plan to listen to that record, based on their description, and Prince's interest in it.

EDIT: I listened to the album, and I dig it. One thing I noticed on the title track is a Prince similarity. At the 4-minute mark, there's a guitar solo line that sounds a lot like the one in "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic", which was also used in "The Max".

There's also identical song titles, which is pure coincidence. "Uptown" and "Funky" are the ones. Prince did a 1989 recording of a song called "Funky", which actually sampled The Chambers Brothers song (according to Princevault). It is the same sample A Tribe Called Quest used on "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo". "Funky" is from another Chamber Brothers album, but the one I found had some extra tracks on it from other albums, and "Funky" was one of them.

Folks should listen to "Time Has Come Today", then "Hallucination Rain". They could be distant cousins at times.

Dale Bozzio released an album, Riot In English, on Paisley Park Records in 1988. You may already know that.

That's Santana's most recent album - it had just been released at the time.

Yeah, April 15. He was at the store on the 16th, then passed 5 days after that. I wasn't even aware Santana as a band (opposed to Carlos on his own) were making music, but they did this year. I always forget that Journey's Neal Schon was in Santana.

It kind of surprises me that he was buying Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book" and Joni Mitchell's "Hejira" because he was a big fan of both artists and these are 2 of their more famous albums. I would have guessed he would have already had these albums. Maybe he had them on vinyl only. For the record, I grew up listening to "Talking Book." I love Stevie...he's my favorite musical artist of all time.
